What's the best way to remove lead residue from a revolver cylinder? I was shooting .357 SWC lead bullets and now have a lead ring in each chamber that I can't get out. I've tried Shooter's Choice lead cleaner, G-96 and Hoppes Elite. I've used brass brush and even fine steel wool. Still can't get it out.

I use a stainless steel brush the brass one is to soft. The stainless brush works well on the backstrap and cylinder as well but don.t use it on a blued gun it will damage it.

Get yourself some copper pot scrubbers, like Chore boy. Wind a bit of this on a bore brush and twist it around in the cylinder.

Some of the old PPC shooters used to flare the case mouth on an old .38 SPL case (you would use a .357 case) drill out the primer pocket and screw the case onto a small wooden handle and use that to scrape out the accumulated crud.

Will keep this in mind...

I picked up a SS Tornado Brush to try. Tried it first with regular Hoppes #9 (god that crap gives me a nasty headache) and it didn't do much. I also picked up a bottle of Flitz Bore Cleaner to try. I have used many different Flitz products and they have all worked great, and this stuff did too. Got all 6 chambers looking like new again with very little effort. Think I will pick up a bunch more of those Tornado brushes in different sizes...

Cut a wood dowel about 5 inches long. Cut a slot in one end of the dowel. Insert a piece of coarse steel wool in the slot. Remove the cylinder from the revolver. Put the dowel in the chuck of your electric drill. Spray solvent in the cylinder. Run the dowel/steel wool brush in each chamber. Replace the bit of steel wool as needed. Works like a charm.

I use Birchwood Casey lead removing cloth to clean my stainless revolvers. Very effective. You can order them on Amazon.

Don't use steel wool on stainless guns. It has the potential to contaminate stainless steel with carbon steel and cause it to rust. Either bronze wool or copper scouring pad are better choices.

Iosso Gun Brite Polish and Flitz polish both do the job quickly and easily (very little rubbing). I bought my last tube of Flitz at House of Knives in the mall.

In the cylinders, I use a brush in cordless drill, but very seldom I have to resort to that, had a trade in that was real bad, I used a worn brush and rapped a bit on steel wool around it and cleaned it out great. stainless cylinder face I have used chrome polish on a rag , on blue it works , but have to be light touch. 0000 steel wool works good

Search for Lead Remover Kit on Brownells. It uses brass patches to physically force the lead out.

I have one of those... and it doesn't work worth a damn.

What did work for me was a dental pick, carefully applied.

This is the answer. Look no further. I have used Leadaway cloth. Brownells sells it and it will remove lead quickly as well. BUT for cylinders using 100% Copper Chore Boy wrapped around a brass brush is the easiest way to clean out your cylinders. It is fast as well.

Take Care
