Cleaning Porting?

There used to be a guy in Alberta who called himself a gunsmith that ported barrels. It seemed to me that his procedure was to pour a stiff drink, sit down with the barrels over his knees and drill holes with his hand drill!

Sounds like we are talking about the same guy.

The porting on my BT-99 Plus does seem to get some plastic hung up on it, the boresnake takes care of most of it.
Interestingly as well, the bluing in that area is somewhat discoloured even after cleaning. This shotgun has seen in excess of 50 000 rounds as well so I would assume it's a long term effect of the gases escaping the ports or perhaps the previous owner cleaned them overzealously.

Both of mine are the same but it doesn't hurt anything. I would say my 870 tc trap has seen all of 50,000 also
Cheers
