Cleaning rods?

I just go with a Dewey coated rod and brass pierce style jags with 2 inch round patches. I am too lazy to cut my own patches and the 2" round patches are snug enough in the bore to do the job. And you don't have to #### around with patches that are too tight or too loose. If I ever use a bore brush it is a Dewey nylon brush. Foaming bore cleaner takes all the work out of cleaning.

I only clean when the groups open up so here is my cleaning method.
1. Wet patch with Shooters Choice solvent, and run the patch back and forth down the bore for 4-5 strokes.
2. Run three dry patches down the bore.
3. Squirt foaming bore cleaner down the bore
4. Have a rum and coke.
5. If bore is really dirty have another rum and coke
6. Dry patch 3-4 times
7. Wet patch with Shooter Choice and run it down the bore 4-5 stokes
8. Dry patch 3-4 times
9. Have another rum and coke
10. Repeat steps 4, 5 and 9.

I've seen him get stuck on step 10 a number of times ..... but it seems to work :)

Dewey have been working great for me for a long time. Plenty-O-Patches from out West is who I've been getting Dewey products from as he's the distributor, but I'd be happy to give some Ottawa boys my business next time I need some more.

Bass pro carries Dewey's in stock, but I just ordered directly from Dewey's themselves. I'll never use another rod.

The best thing about dewey is you can order direct from their web site so all your little bits and pieces fit perfectly to eachother.

That will save you from trying to cobble up something from Canadian Tire to fit the threads correctly.

Dewey rods are the only ones I use. I got mine from Wholesale Sports and P-D Enterprises. Invest in a good rod guide as well. I have a Lucas bore guide for my AI and Rem 700 and used a Dewey before getting the Lucas.

Speaking of bore guides . What do you guys think of the Dewey bore guide?

Ivy cleaning rods because I needed custom diameters and lengths. Should use a really good bore guide like a Lucas when you could get him to ship to Canada. Some people cringe at the thought of an uncoated rod down their bore and some cringe at the thought of a coated rod impregnated with micro debris going down their bore.

I made my own with 3/16 SS, 2 piece, with teflon bushings at a few places along its length, works fine. Though I don't clean much at all now, been thinking of making a tool just to clean the chamber and maybe throat/land area and nothing further up.
Did see the Dewey's, definitely very nice, didn't get one only cause there wasn't one the length I needed at the time so had to improvise.
