How often should you clean the Glock 17 firing pin and channel. I've got over 6500 rounds through mine and have not taken the firing pin out yet.
It still runs flawlessly.
Thanks

I clean mine when I am in the mood to do a thorough job but few thousand rounds have gone down the pipe in between my moods.

Field strip your Glock. Once the slide assembly is off the frame, remove the barrel, & recoil spring assembly. Depress the little plunger on the inside of the slide, just behind the breech face. That little plunger is the firing pin block safety. Holding the slide, with the plunger depressed, shake the slide. Does the firing pin move freely back & forth in it's channel? If "yes" then all good. Now, just after doing that, let go of the plunger. Does the firing pin protrude out of the breech face? If you now shake the slide, the firing pin no longer moves in it's channel? If "yes" then all good.

Then pull back on the rear tab of the firing pin. You should hear a "click" as the firing pin block safety plunger resets. The firing pin should no longer protrude thru the breech face. Put forward pressure on the rear tab of the firing pin. Does the firing pin not move forward? If "yes", all good [the firing pin block safety is working].

There you go.

NAA.

This. I do it randomly. really no need to be often, but it doesn't take much extra effort to do. so I do it whenever my clean freak personality kicks in. :)

I do it about every 1k. All I shoot my Glocks in are competitions and training so I'd rather it not fail there. If just plinking or shooting paper then it is fine to "wait" for issues.

I try to clean and lube after every trip to the range, but I like to put anywhere from 400-700 rounds through my Glocks per range trip. I dont fully take down the slide everytime, but try to do it at least every 2nd cleaning...It also depends on the ammo and how dirty it shoots

Even if the pistol is still working fine, I find such a noticeable difference in how my pistols operate when they are nice and clean and lubed. I have all aftermarket internals and triggers so that might make a slight difference, but either way even stock nothing like a nicely clean and lubed pistol (no lube in the firing pin channel though)

I find it so easy to detail strip a Glock that I don't mind doing it after each outing. Is it required? No but it doesn't take me very long so I've made it part of my regular Glock routine.

Pull it apart once a year, clean the whole thing - I use an ultra sonic cleaner on my M&P, put it back together. Semi-regular cleaning consists of wiping down the frame, slide and barrel using G96.

I enjoy disassembling and assembling my guns almost as much as I like shooting them. Not sure why but I just find it relaxing , so mine are all super clean. But I would say NAA hit the nail on the head, if it's not a matter of life and death and everything is working fine no need to mess with it.

I typically do the following:

Once a month - Field strip, quick clean and lube, ensure barrel is cleaned & clean out sights.
Once a year - Detailed strip, clean all the nooks and crannies, lube appropriate points & ensure barrel is cleaned & clean out sights.

I have a Glock 17, 20, & 21. I use that procedure for all of them.
