I bought a used CMMG .22 Conversion kit for my Norc M4 with thousands of rounds through it. The extractor claw is slightly worn, and the front assembly (the part with the .223 casing ) wobbles a bit when not in the gun. I was shooting it through a Norinco CQ5.56 (M4 Carbine version).
Ammo was 38 gn copper plated HP Federal Game Shock High Velocity, and Remington 40gn copper plated Remington Gold Bullet. Federals shot poorly (many FTE's and FTF's) but Gold Bullets were worse- with frequent and regular FTF's, double feeds, and FTE's.
I suspect it may have been a mag issue - the mag was a 10 rounder that had been creatively converted to a 27 rounder (drywall knife, needle-nose pliers, butane lighter, and sand paper) - but even loaded to 5, it still had problems with both ammo types.
Can't speak much to my groupings, since I spent a lot of time clearing stoppages, double feeds, and FTF's.
Overall - it was a pretty frustrating experience.
One other note, the assembly was quite filthy - I did a half-assed cleaning with nitrosolve and CLP, but the feedramp was quite grimy, and I can't speak to the condition of the barrel (it seemed quite filthy). I admit, it was a bit more lubed than it needed to be. The AR itself was a bit more slimy than it should have been.
Came home and did a complete cleanup of the gun and kit. Scrubbed out the carbon buildup with Hoppes and did a light application of CLP.
Fellow I bought the kit from demo'd it using Federal Champion 36 gn Copper HP's - the kind in the 525 value packs from Canadian Tire. Results of the demo were favourable enough to warrant me buying it (about 50 rounds through, no malfuctions or stoppages)
I think my next range trip will be with that ammo.
Anyone else have any thoughts/experience that might help?
