Feedback on the site seems to be generally favourable- just wondering if anyone's had any experience with the kits Questar and Arms East are currently selling.

Thanks!

I participate on other forums where I get more information on these and other rimfire products. CMMG conversions get very good reviews. Experienced people will tell you to opt for the stainless units as they are worth the extra costs.

You will not get the same accuracy as you would with a dedicated .22 but performance will be OK for casual use. Accuracy is somewhat dependent on rifling twist on your .223 barrel. The optimum for .22 is 1-16 particularly for lighter bullets. Performance in a 1-7 barrel may not be ideal. Some use sub sonic heavier rounds like the 60 gr. Aquila and get better performance.
I think Arms East carry the higher end SS units.

...to continue where I left off.... :)

Good mag, forward assist adaptor, and also had the bolt hold open (which has a bit of break in period in my experience before being 100%) I would definitely purchase again. As mentioned earlier, not the most accurate (my rifle is 1:7) but still fun as he'll to shoot 25 rounds out of one mag :D

Thanks for the info!

it's rather tempting. realize it wouldn't be exceptionally accurate, but as you say, still fun.

sigh... now if i could only use it somewhere other than an 'approved' range- but that's a different thread!

Thanks once again to all!

I picked up a complete CMMG 22LR lower just a couple of weeks ago, off EE, put down about 200 rounds down range the first time out it ran flawlessly, I would highly suggest the route as 22LR are notoriously dirty, it is just easier not have to worry about your gas tube from excessive fowling.

I haven't had any problems with my CMMG. The SS version is also easy to clean, I just wipe it down with a CLP soaked rag.

It's nice being able to shoot hundreds of rounds down range without hurting the wallet.

Conversion/Upper ?

After careful consideration I chose the CMMG top-of-the line conversion unit as I wanted to mimic the functioning of my .223 AR in all respects. The "forward assist and bolt hold open adapters accomplish that.

Since the conversion would have come to over $300.00 and having read about the accuracy and cleaning issues of the conversions such as they are, my final decision was to go with a CMMG upper with all the available upgrades.

Wharever route is chosen my research indicated that CMMG is a good company with good products that are well supported.

You actually use your forward assist?

Also, they have tactical bacon which may be very valuable with the coming bacon shortage.

I can't say that I have but my rifle will look and feel pretty much the same regardless of what upper I mount. Eventually both uppers will have extended free float Samson handguard/rails and the same sighting system.

I'll compete in carbine and Steel Challenge matches while in Texas for the winter. The .22 upper will be used for the latter as SC gobbles up a lot of ammo. I do the same with my 1911 where I shoot both .45 and .22 with the same lower.

So I guess I'm NOT buying a CMMG conversion bolt. Looked into it, but am just not sure it makes sense- not that accurate, lead deposits on the barrel, and more $ than in the U.S. I may keep my eye out for a .22 cal upper- like that idea a bit better.

I just got mine and it's a super piece. I got the SS BCG based on recommendations read on the tactical rimfire forums. The upper is extremely well fit and finished. I bought all the available upgrades so the .22 upper can be made to closely mimic my .223. If you aren't in a huge rush, try arranging import.

Did you import from Brownell's?

Did you import from Brownell's? What exactly is involved?
