Does anyone own a m1 garand rebuilt by the CMP organization? the rifle specifically im looking at is

"M1 Garand, CMP Special (.308)
Allow 120-180 days for delivery.
M1 Garand Harrington & Richardson Arms receiver. This is a completely refurbished rifle consisting of an original M1 Garand Harrington & Richardson Arms receiver, new production Criterion barrel, new production American Walnut stock and handguards, and new web sling. Receiver and most other parts are refinished USGI, but some parts may be new manufacture. Minor pitting may be present. A .308 spacer block is installed to prevent the loading of a .30-06 round into the chamber."

this will be a shooter and not a collecter hence why im going for this rifle. ( i have family in the states that can buy this ) i am thinking about bringing in through irunguns. Anyone else have any experience with the CMP garands?

I just finished watching a video on youtube of a guy with a 30-06 SA cmp special garand..looked really really nice, as close to new as you could resonably get I would say. I wish I could get one sent up

i was actually thinking of getting 2 or 3 , one for me one for my buddy and one to sell off to make some extra cash for ammo, the only downside is i have to wait 120-180 days before my cousin will get it ( and then another 2-4 weeks for irunguns to import it) :|

I would say, if irunguns can facilitate the import.... The 120 to 180 day plus a few week wait would not concern me in the least. I've been pondering one myself.

already emailed them tonight and waiting to hear back from them. once i know if they can do it i will probably visit my cousin and give him the cash.

CMP only sells to qualified US citizens. That said, one can cobble up a similar Garand from parts available here.

my cousin is a qualified U.S citizen. i give him cash, he takes possession of rifle when CMP sends it to him , he ships rifle through FFL dealer to irunguns. etc etc... i havent found any m1 garands with new barrel and new stock in excellent condition under 1300$ on any canadian site.....

going next weekend to visit, cmp shows 120-180 day wait :( , will try to post updates here. I will likely only get one. After that i might get more :)

Carefully not to get him into trouble as a 'straw purchaser' though, your plan would meet that criteria exactly.

Was thinking that - their laws are as convoluted as ours. He can buy with his money and then sell to you I believe, but you can not give him money to buy it.... even if everything is legal and above board, straw purchasing still applies. So yah.....

importing it shouldnt be a problem through irunguns, ill just get my cousin to buy it with his money and we can iron out the compensation another time. now to wait 4-6 months

did a bit more research on my caliber options , was looking at pricing first:

1000 rounds of 30-06 = 769$ + tax/shipping
http://www.theammosource.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_108_120&products_id=3990

1000 rounds of 308 = 449.95$(norc) , 539$(MFS) +tax/shipping
http://www.theammosource.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_108_110&products_id=3701

is the 30-06 better for the garand or 308? anyone here fire both? is it a big difference between the two? ( i know the 30-06 case is a bit longer then 308) i originally planned on 308 because of availability of cheap ammo.
