CMP M1 Garand thoughts

That seems more to keep guns out of the hands of people who legally cannot own a firearm..if his cousin were to buy it in a moment of weakness and decide he wanted to sell it because he needes the money back, offered it to his licensed canadian cousin to buy I cant see how that would send red flags there would be a transfer paper trail, that seems in my eyes that its so I cant buy it and give it to my buddy who just got out of prison.

You may want to check into the loads specific for the M1 Garand. Too much pressure may cause issues with the op rod if used as a repeater with some types of ammo.

oh yea your right i remember now, read something about the op rod bending because some commercial 30-06 was too strong of a charge?

he technically would be transferring it to IRG no?

I dont see what they could say if he was transfering it to irg, seeing as its a company if he does not want said rifle anymore he has the right to sell it legally I would think?

Unfortunately a guy got nailed buying a rifle and giving it as a gift to his father using this exact law. Stated he was purchasing it for himself but somehow later said he was thinking about giving it to his dad, and got hit with the full weight of charges. Was on CGN a while back - discussion pointed out that both were legal to have it and he was being charged based on the fact the law is being applied regardless of situation or honesty on the part of the buyer.

has anyone actually asked IRUNGUNS if it can be done?
pretty sure that they will know? or at least can look into it for you for a definitive answer?

Pretty sure IRG should be fine - once the CMP gun gets shipped to the buyer it's out of their control. More the issue is the ridiculous straw purchase laws that basically mean no one can even think about selling the gun before buying it without breaking a law in their head. There is likely a correct method for buying and reselling, but I don't understand it, and probably neither do the enforcing agencies. If someone can dig up the old discussion I believe I read a solution there.

iff IRG is an ffl dealer..... I would think they could just buy the rifle but I don't understand it all either. if I was prepared to put money down now, I'd give them a call before having someone make a purchase stateside. if anyone manages to import one let us know

You are going to run into a problem when you apply for the export permit. If they run the serial number and find out it's a CMP rifle it will get denied. Also remember US Customs and US Home Land Security inspect shipments before they leave the US. You might run into problem there too.

is there any proof of this on the internet that specifically states the u.s government is prohibiting export of cmp rifles?

Look at the CMP Web site.. The guns were imported for use at CMP shooting clubs. All of the serial numbers are listed at the CMP.
You have to get an export licence to export firearms from usa. I used to do this as a dealer and they want to know where the gun came
from and if it is stolen etc. The gun will have to go from local dealer to export dealer.

The CMP Specials .308 are basically new built-up rifles with new barrels. They had some SA and HRA rifles 30-06 returned from Greece without the stocks, all metal was correct collector grade new and they put new stocks on them from Dupage Trading for 950.00 per rifle. I was able and got one of each placing correct stocks on them making them collector grade new. Rifles have no usage or any marks on the metal.

So why is it that IRG and Prophet River say they are able to import CMP rifles?

The CMP does not ship, or sell outside of the states. Apparently it's illegal to have someone buy a CMP Garand, and sell it to someone in another country. Any M1 Garands bought through the states would be from another dealer. James River Armoury did sell refurbished CMP M1 Garands, Wanstall's could get them, but they haven't found a reliable dealer, so there's no guarantee.

You can buy .308 Garand kits without the receiver here http://www.e-sarcoinc.com/762nato308m1garandkit.aspx

and the receiver through Marstar https://www.marstar.ca/dynamic/product.jsp?productid=78112.

Or you could find an M1 Garand through equipment exchange, or auctions.

I too am looking for a .308 Garand, and I'm beginning to consider building mine.

looks like ill be buying a 308 garand from a member here, so much for the cmp route. i also bought a beretta stripped reciever from sfrc so i can slowly build my own 30-06 garand over the next couple of months.

sneak peek of the good stuff coming to me soon :)
