Cold weather cracking

Tru-Oil has been me go to stuff since the 70's. Never a cold crack issue on the finish.

Hmmm... never run into that. Laminates are easy to refinish though... sand.it down and Tru Oil it with three or four coats.

Kk I will give you that! I’ve had a FEW over the years -My first was a HERTERS 1/8 “ laminated maple - walnut stock from about 1974 ! It’s still on that Sako L579 action in 22-250 with a Hart barrel . RJ

It was a pain to strip but after 5 coats of antique oil over 5 days it is better then new. Or at least better then it was. Minwax antique oil I’m convinced is the same as Truoil without the fish smell. Much cheaper also.

How did you get it out of the checkering? Stiff nylon brush?

The original laminate stock was checkered after it was finished so there was no finish to be removed in the checkering. Made it easier.
Otherwise soaking in stripper and a wire/nylon brush would have had to been used.

Interesting, and no surprise at -30. I wouldn't sweat it, it's a working tool.

You have to expect some #### and abuse.

This is a big selling point for me on a hunting gun. Plastic is fantastic but wood feels good. Unless it's an ultralight build or something a laminate is fine.
