Hey guys. I need to know, to those of you who have deacts in your collection, do you enjoy them? Obviously they aren't as much fun as having the real deal, but is having one in any condition better than not at all?

I've been obsessed with Brens for a few years now. I've never even had the chance to fondle one as of yet. I have only three rifles in my collection that I have never shot, one was a recent acquisition, another was my Grandfathers 1894 that he bought in 1920 and is sacred, and the last is my Ross M-10 that is in nearly perfect condition and for that reason I'm putting off shooting it. There are enough out there in shooter condition that I can get a Ross in .280 to shoot later. I love that rifle though even though I don't shoot it, and I enjoy looking at it and holding it a lot.

Question is, do you feel that spending $1500 on an LMG you can never shoot worth it?

I have no problem with a person collecting dewats. It's up to you to determine if it's worth the money. It isn't that much different than owning prohib rifles. Yes they can be fired, but you aren't allowed to bring them to a range. Total BS, but that's the way it is. So, in the end, there isn't much difference.

They can be fired, but they may not be fired. That's the crux of it.

Hi flying pig,

I wanted a Thompson for my WWII collection, and since owning the real thing in Canada is impossible with my license a DEWAT was the only option.

I'm not fully satisfied with my DEWAT but it's better than the alternative which is not having one at all.

If the laws changed, I would buy a functional example.

Thanks guys, that's exactly what I needed to hear. I've waited three years now and wanted a nice Inglis C&C Bren more and more as the time goes on. Guess I may have to just take the plunge and try to find one. Steve your comment makes total sense!

I am pleasantly surprised that a discussion on CGN about Dewat firearms has not generated a few of the usual derogatory "useless paperweight" posts. I own several milsurps that are not deactivated that I have no intention of ever firing, so owning dewats makes complete sense to me. They are still important historical artifacts regardless of whether or not they still function.

There are several Brens for sale on the EE at the moment. However I don't think any of them are #### and click. I own several dewat SMG's, some are #### and click and some are not. I would not ignore a really nice example of your desired model just because it is not C & C. Once you have "played" with it a few times the C&C feature is not really all that important in my opinion. I think the quality of the deactivation, size and locations of welds, etc is more important.

Good luck with your search for the right Bren.

I'm upset at the idea of functional guns being deactivated, but if they are already that way I don't see any wrong in buying them.

I don't much like the idea of paying potentially thousands of dollars to get a few dewats, but not as much as I dislike the idea of them being irreversibly destroyed.

destroying a gun is never a good thing but if it that or the smelter then id rather have it deactivated I have a deact #### and click AK that I got for dirt cheap id love a bren but the deactivated ones go for way more then they are worth(id not pay more then marstar has them listed under their full auto section) since the bren is not prohibited by name if someone would have the money they could have a new receiver machined up problem is the receiver starts out as a 36lb block of steel and ends up a lot less that's a lot of money

I'd be a liar if I pretended that I've never thought "How cool would it be to have a dewat Bren hanging over the fireplace?"

I say go for it. I may do the same one day just to have another cool thing hanging on the wall.

#### and click has never been part of my consideration when buying a dewatt for me since I have only been interested in the firearm for display. I would take a nice condition example over a lesser condition C&C example every time, but I know others feel differently.

you might want to read up on bren guns ! obviously you have never used one.
Full agreement here with gaffs response. I suggest for reading purposes on the Bren you get a copy of The Bren Gun Saga by Thomas B Dugelby. Personally I do not have any issues witrh Dewats and am suprised that venders are not bringing them into Canada by the container load, I am sure there is a ever growing market for them as sadly the chances of going back to the good old days are realistically not going to happen, all the wishfull thinking aside. So Dewats (and Collector Grade Publications) do serve a purpose for those who cannot own a CA/FA firearm and wish to collect, sure there are those that go on about "odd shaped paperweights and future manhole covers" but the days of cracking open "The Gunrunner" or Access to Firearms and seeing page after page of CA and NR guns is long past.
