I bought 10 of these mags from a dealer on here. They are advertised as Colt 8 round stainless mags. I bought them cause i just bought a Colt commander.

However, the mags have nothing that says Colt on them, in fact the follower has the shooting star, which is a Chip Mccormick logo. There may be a reasonable explanation for this as i know most 1911 manufacturers farm out the making of their magazines. Any of you guys with Colts, get a similar mag in the box with your new colt when you bought it?

Here are some pics:

Are you sure they weren't advertised as being for a Colt 1911. For instance I just ordered a few Mec-Gar and Sig magazines and they are labeled as "Colt 1911" magazines.

It says Colt 1911 8 round stainless magazines. To me i read that as colt magazines. Not magazines that fit a colt.

Why call them Colt 1911 magazines, wont these mags fit any 1911? Why not just call them 1911 magazines.

There is a pic in the add but i cant see the follower or the bottom plate so i assumed that colt was stamped there. Guess its what i guess for making assumptions. I'll have to see how these work. Should have known seeing as they were so cheap.

Definitely not genuine Colt Mags but they are as good if not better. All my Colt manufactured mags are marked "Colt" except for the Milsurp stuff.

Got 2 from Corwin arms, they suck, mag springs are way too weak, but needed to get these to hold 8 rounds. I got them to work better with an extra power spring but then we are back to 7 rounds....I never thought they were genuine colt mags, took a chance on them cuz they were cheap.
There are some other blued 7 round mags that have "Colt .45" stamped on the bottom, usually $15-$20 going around, also suck.
Wolverine Supplies has ACT mags for $18 and they are very decent.
And I'm pretty sure they are nickel plated and not stainless as advertised.

I got them from same place. They look like Junk, I thought they were Real Colt mags. I would have bought some Wilson Combat 47D if i had known this. Ill see how they work i guess.

You guys got ripped off. Original Colt mags have Colt and the Colt logo on the base plate. Their 7rd mags have a different follower than their 8rd mags. Want me to post some pics?

Stacks left to right:

Kimber 9mm/MEC GAR 9mm/MEC GAR 9mm/Chip McCormick 45ACP/Chip McCormick 45ACP (notice the shooting stars on the bumpers)/Colt 8 RD 45ACP, Colt 9mm/WWI type mag.

Colt magazines are usually marked on the bottom. Chip McCormick mags have 2 holes on the bottom for mounting a bumper and the follower has a shooting star. I wouldn't complain though, the Chip mags are probably better than Colt factory mags.

Good to hear, ill try them out and let ya know.

I'd be suspicious of ANY Colt marked magazine - there are so many faked Colt mags out there it's scary, I happen to have 2 "Colt" mags that are so far out of spec they won't insert properly into ANY 1911 mag well. Mind you I've only tried them on a Colt, STI, Norc, Kimber and Para - there may well be a 1911 out there that they'll fit.

Mine dont say colt anywhere but are being sold as colt 1911 mags when the only mark on them is the chip mccormick logo of the shooting star on the logo.

Here's the 2 mags that came with my BNIB 2012 Colt Gold Cup Trophy. Note the difference between the 7 rd and 8 rd mag followers.

7 Rd Mag Base

7 Rd Mag Follower

8 Rd Mag Tube

8 Rd Mag Base

not necessarily so- it depends on the vintage- my colt series 70's have NOTHING stamped on the baseplates- and yes, there was only one to a pistol-
