I've been offer a Colt Commander 45acp with a wilson barrel, modded sights, 2 mags with original box for $450(Was told it's a late 60's vintage). I have shoot it and it groups well and feeels very good in my hand. Is it worth it or am I lusting after it and about to pay too much.

Cheers and thanks for your input.

That is a great price. Assuming there is no rust, cracks in the frame or anything major like that you are definately not overpaying. I would think a gun like that could go for 550-650 pretty quickly on the EE.

If that is a Combat Commander, yeah, that is really cheap. Even if it were an aluminum Commander, it is still cheap.

Not a fan of the aluminum framed Commander, though, I might buy it to re-sell.

You should be putting the money in the guys hand, and taking the gun out of his hand, so quickly he feels like he just got robbed. That's a friend price if ever there was, don't go looking in gift horses mouths too hard.

That's a horrible deal! Don't go with it! Pass on his contact info, so I can give him a piece of my mind!

This post is by a newly-licensed guy who likes 1911's and knows how to smell a killer deal :ninja:

It wasn't that long ago I said I was not interested in owning a pistol, after all every, time I went some where it was legal for me to use one, someone was only to kind to lend me one. I didn't want to bother with all the BS of paper work and ATT's, etc.. Well I recently found a club and range close to home I like and they routinely shoot CF rifle, rim fire and pistol at club meets. Couple that with a "Gentleman" who is patient(he's willing to wait while I get the R in RPAL) plus, I really enjoy shooting the 45, so I committed to buying the Colt Government.

I paid the full price of $450 as dickering with this fellow then asking him to wait while I got my sh*t together, didn't seem right. I inspected the pistol and found no cracks, rust or wear issues(bluing loss and 1 mag that needs to be pulled out are the only real issues). The pistol has a Wilson barrel, has several other mods to the trigger, sights, etc and comes with 2 mags, cleaning kit, tool kit etc.(no box). He says the pistol has 10 to 15k rounds on the pistol with less on the barrel (seller suspects 5k as the previous owner installed the barrel just before he passed away and he has not competed with the pistol).

Cheers

Next time I go to the sellers place or meet him at the range I'll get some pictures, but, other than bluing loss on the slide and the Wilson name on the barrel it looks like a Commander. Oh and it has a brass bead front sight not a blade with a rear sight that has a round notch instead of a V.

$450 for a Colt commander albeit with a Wilson barrel [if it was fitted properly] with a bit of finish blueing loss is still a great deal.

Pics would be cool.... I'd like to see that site set-up.
