Colt Delta Elite share your stories

I picked up the first edition colt delta elite 10MM with an extra 9MM barrel. It was a deal at a gun show only $450. But its to nice to shoot, with the gold on the slide. It does shoot well, at least better thatn me.

I have an early Delta Elite Gold Cup SS customized by a number of people, including myself. Great gun, reliable and accurate with its original barrel. I got a barrel for .40 S&W but shot the latter very little. I also found that replacing the original double springs with a Wolff spring and a solid guide rod improved recoil control a little. Only problem is that the 10 mm ejects the brass into a different postal code and the brass is neither cheap nor as plentiful as 9 mm or .40 S&W. I have been told that the Delta Elite is popular with prospectors, surveyors and geologists that can carry for bear protection.

Colt Delta Elite

Personally, I'm generally not a fan of the Colt 1911 pistols with the Series 80 firing pin block safety junk in 'em.

That said, since the original Delta Elite was Series 80 configuration, my interest in playing with the then relatively new 10mm ctg on the 1911 platform out weighed my aversion enough to make an exception.

Got my first Colt Delta back in the early 1990's.

At the moment I have a couple... a stainless Colt Delta Gold cup and a blued Colt Delta Elite.

For shooting I prefer the plain, flat sided wrap around Pachmayr grips:

While I still like to shoot 10mm I had a .40 S&W barrel fitted to my blued Delta as a "drop-in" so I could take advantage of all the available .40 S&W brass that litters our local ranges.

I've had my blued Colt Delta Elite 10mm since 1988 had Dlask Arms Corp do a load of work on it...

I will never sell it...

I would like to have a S/S model like that beauty that NAA posted above as well...

My wife has one (looks like the middle pic of NAA's pictures)...it was a gift (can you believe this) from her father when she was 13! Gotta love the guy...knows what gifts really count :D. Obviously it's a never sell gun and all original. It is crazy accurate (as much so as my Sig 1911 Blackwater). I think it's a beautiful handgun to boot. I know you're asking about the newer model but if it's anything like the older one than it will be a great piece to have.

I don't have a Delta but a friend of mine does. He has a pair just like the pics. One each. He had a black bear come up on his back porch and he gave him two round in the bowtie. Bear folds up and quits without arguement. I don't know if my .45 would do that...

I do... your 45acp won't do that...

10mm = most powerful standard production semi-auto round = can do everything that the others can and everything they can't...

:D

How much does a new stainless delta run for?

Just called Wolverine 2 weeks ago to order one. Brand new stainless Colt Delta Elite from colt was $1364 and change. Then a chat with Gunnar from Armco changed my mind as my Armco custom STI Trojan 10mm was less $$ with tax and shipping added in.

So, counting down the days until it shows up....... :D

STI is Texan, read the reviews, they are top notch. While you are poking around the STI website check out the "Perfect 10", if it wasn't double stack I would have a serious issue resisting, IT IS ###Y!!!

I personally think I will order a Delta later, 10mm is a powerful addiction. The stainless is a real looker, and I haven't found many bad reviews on it.

Have the new ones been modified with stronger springs to prevent the peening that the early ones face??

I had one it was a lemon. Front sight flipped out twice, extractor broke, slide stop had to be replaced. All this with rounds loaded to 40 S&W specs. On the other hand I had a S&W 1006 which never gave a bit of trouble in 15000+ rounds. The Delta only saw about 2000 and I dumped it.

What weight of recoil springs are you guys using for your 1911s in 10 mm?

My Kimber came with a factory 18 lb, but I have been thinking of installing a heavier Wolff spring as I shoot fairly heavy handloads.
