I was lucky enough to buy back my old Colt from the friend I sold it to 12 years ago. It's a great shooter and in the same great shape it was when I sold it to him...+100 rounds or so.

Now my dilemma...
Should I leave this beautiful gun the way it is...all original, or do I dive into the custom 1911 crowd and tune it up and put a bunch of fancy parts on it?

I want a tricked up 1911 for sure, but is this the gun to do it to?
I'm kind of leaning towards buying one that is tricked up from the factory.

If you did trick it up, what would you do to it (or any other stock 1911)?

I value your feedback and suggestions....thanks gang!

Trigger job, sights, make sure it feeds and ejects (maybe an extended safety if you're really pimpin') - that's it.

I find in this part of the country that customized 1911's
are a slow seller, everybody wants factory orignal is in mint
condition, mind you if it was a beater, go for it . as others have said,
I would guy one already done up- way cheaper , unless you want new.

with the p[rices these days, get yourself another 45- tricked out the way you wanted- with kimber et al, you get all/most of the bells and whistles for about the same as what we used to pay to buy and INSTALL the accessories, and it's DONE RIGHT, no return trips to the smith because the hammer follows the slide or some such nonsense- back in the day, we had no choice, and the bits( unless you bought usgi) were expensive, plus you had to pay to have a smith install a lot of them- my series 70 nickel is like that- it's basically a wilson gun except for the frame, and i think i've sunk over 1 grand into it- and it came polished

Thanks for the advise you guys.
I'm going to leave it all original...I even took the rubber aftermarket grips off and put the wood Colt grips back on.

Now, which 1911 custom piece to get? Looks like I'll be spending lots of time on GunNutz.
