Colt Gunsite...Any CGN's got one?

My Kimber has no flaws. Aside from the MIM parts.

ETA - Its unfired (I'm trying to trade it for WWI Commercial Colt) if I were to shoot it a lot I would replace Kimber fire control parts with either Ed Brown or EGW and tune the trigger to 3#.

Kimber?

It just bothers me to think that one pays so much for the Kimbers and then has to consider replacing the factory parts with others..........

I have the Colt Gunsite CCO and it was a great buy. I bought it new from the Shooting Edge a few years back and it is definitely a shooter. It's currently with Rodger at Dark International getting some night sights and magwell installed. For all those knocking Colts I can understand where you're coming from, they are expensive, hard to find and in some cases aren't as well put together as you should expect, however when Colt gets it right, they really get it right and based on how mine shoots they really got it right with this one.

Congrats, Colt Gunsites are harder to get, even in US...and the prices have gone up! How do you like the thin grip/short trigger comb?

It's true, Colt has sold guns not well put together ...but they will always make it right for the customer, their customer service and warranty are A1. All guns manufactured after 1996 are guaranteed for life. The only problem...for us Canadians it's not easy to send back a gun to Colt.

I respect everyone's opinion on the subject but Colt sells everything they make...(without advertising) so something must be right somewhere!

For my part, every single Colt I have is perfect or near perfection!

Post a pic of your GS when it comes back!

I think Colt has a lot going for it, the only problem is that they really can't keep up with demand for the product. That in itself can be a major problem for a manufacturer, I do however give Colt's current management full props for not churning out 'crap' with a name brand on it - the Series 70 looks very nice as do a few other of their products. I'd much rather see Colts be hard to get, high quality guns than expensive guns that need work to function.

Went to a local gun store to look at Kimbers a couple of weeks ago and had a chance to examine two units. Both had serious defects. On the first gun, the hammer was leaning so far to the left, it was actually touching the slide. The second gun had a poorly machined crown. This is to say nothing of the cheap, breakage-prone MIM internal parts. So Kimber is not exactly a paragon of quality either.

I had a TLE II, the only part I replaced was the rear sight, not because I needed to, only because I had to have a Novak and I put VZ Grips on it. I shot thousands of rounds through it and never once had a problem. Maybe Kimber has some quality issues, as does Springfield and Para Ordnance but I can remember ever since I started shooting 17 years ago, Colt has clearly been the most inconsistant 1911 on the market.

okcorral,

The CCO version doesn't have the slim grips, only the full size version does. I'm o.k. with the feel of the short trigger but if I had my choice I'd probably go with the Greider medium length trigger. I'll definitely post some pics once she's back. I decided to go with the arched S+A magwell so I'm curious about how it's going to change the feel of the gun. I think it will help fill my hand a bit as the frame is a bit smaller than the gov't and commanders. Out of curiosity where did you get your Gunsite? Also congrats on the Special Combat Government model.

I am not too crazy about the slim grips, I will try them a bit but eventually change them!
I really like checkered arched MSH, they fit my hand better!
I found my Gunsite in Florida!
Thanks Johnny,
Here's a pic of a nicely made and fitted arched MSH!

Try a flat MSH with a Hogue wrap around finger grooves. Best fit I have found for a 1911.

I don't mind Pachs as they are flat on the front strap. Don't care for Hoques with the finger grooves on the front strap. Too bad they didn't make the soft Hoques that were flat on the font like the Pachs....

I prefer having a checkered of serrated front strap! I guess if you have a smooth strap it could help....With the finger grooves you don't decide where you place your fingers, the grip has decided for you, so they might be good only for some people!
I also prefer the Hogue soft feel!:)
