Colt LE6921

There is only one actually DOD approved M4 subcontractors rifles available in Canada, who makes M4 uppers that are officially approved as OEM replacements for M16 to M4 fleet conversions and M4 rebuild and repair, and who actually follows the TDP completely (ok, their taper pins go in left to right, rather than right to left.) Hint, they're in Hartford County, CT and they've been doing M16 (and later M4) parts for the primary contractor(s) for over 30 years, hint, they are a notoriously quiet company about what they actually manufacture as a sub (as any large scale subcontractor would be), final hint, Sparrow shoots one. ;)

Unfortunately for civilians, the 14.5 are only available for Govt end user in Canada, thanks to Uncle Sam. BUT... we are about to announce something that will make all the kook-aid drinkers happy over the next couple of days, it'll be posted on CGN at that time. ;)

The below markings + 14.5" Colt bbl + M4LE on the side is what I want.

I would settle with my old 6920 though (from pics below)... anyone got it? Would have been from user 'smgcon' most likely. LE00820x, SAFE/SEMI, Diemaco/Anchor Harvey forgings... and an obvious dent/scratch from the mag release, through the H in Hartford, through SAFE...

I think I may have had that rifle and broke it apart to sell it separately. Can't say for sure though. I've had two separate Diemaco stamped 6920's and I parted them and sold them both.

The S/N was LE0082xx. The carry handle had a long gouge in it also on one side. Ring a bell?

Yeah but no park under FSB and no taper pins... how can you sleep at night? Nightmares about FSB's falling off, and being locked in a room full of rusty ringed barrels.

With a Colt, you can dream happy happy thoughts about refreshing kool-aid. :)
 
I've had a couple of 14.5" barrels, there's no point to them really. As I recall, Colt came up with the 14.5" barrel because in the old XM177 program they found there was inconsistent gas pressure at the port unless you had sufficient barrel in front of it and the cyclic rate was inconsistent. This led to the Colt 653 "M16A1" carbine, which was sold widely to Israel, the Phillippines etc.

There's no downside to a 16-inch barrel, especially with a semi-auto and you do lose MV out of a 14.5" barrel so what's the point? I never understand what this fascination is with buying stuff because the military or the police use it. Okay fair enough if you're a collector and must have one of everything but otherwise I couldn't give a crap. The military have had enough duds over the years (Mk 23 pistol, SCAR, A2 stepped barrel, etc.), why make the same mistake?

If you want to know the right numbers, you only lose around 100fps with a 14.5" barrel compared to a 16". If you get a 16", make sure you get a mid-lenght, there is no point in buing a carbine 16", carbine= 14.5", middy= 16", rifle= 18+". The additional recoil and stress put to the gun with a 16" carbine isn't worth it, that's why AR-15 manufacturers came up with the mid-lenght. Accuracy has nothing to do with barrel lenght neither. Well trained soldiers with M4 in Afghanistan like it the way it is, it works and it will work easily out to the FAMOUS 300m range where bullets suddenly fall to the groud, as reported by stupid and untrained soldiers, who are the same ones who came up with the idea that an M4 shoudln't be lubed, these guys also do not know how to zero their optics nor their irons properly. If the army was building a true rifleman out of every soldier instead of a qualifying soldier, they wouldn't even be talking about the M4 negatively.
 
There are literally hundreds of thousands of 16" carbines using the carbine gas system.

Midlenght is surely nice - but a lot of stuff is "created" to generate market. Afterall, there will be no sale growth if you cannot convince people to shell out money for some perceived or real incremental improvements.

All a sudden, people are jumping in to trash all the 16" carbine system that have been in use for 20 years.....Before the appearance of midlength, no one ever complains about their Colt carbines for 20 years. 16" carbine system WORKS. Somehow the marketing machine for the midlength got carried so far that everyone thought that 16" carbine does not work. I am sure all the civilians and LE, as well as all the troops with C8 SFW or FT could be witnesses that the carbine system is working

The initial major driving force behind the develoment of midlength by Armalite, I suspect, is more to do with cosmetic issue and product differentiation than one associated function. It has been for a long time that consumers are complaining about the "look" of that 1.5" barrel sticking out. The small functional improvement was a side benefit after the cosmetic issue was targeted.
