Colt M4??

The owner's manual says the bolt catch lever doesn't function. Neither does the forward assist.
Not cool at all

Cool or not cool becomes irrelevant.....
The truth is, the less it is like an actual AR, the more likely it might end-up as being non-restricted.
As was suggested, if you want a .22 that functions exactly like an AR, buy a restricted .223 version with a .22 LR conversion kit.

Well I was at the store today picking up some ammo and was told it would be at least another month until they know what it would be classified as what he was told on the phone by I guess his distributor?

I also happined to glance at the dealer cost price of $650

The tactical solutions upper which fits onto a standard AR-15 lower also doesn't have the bolt catch or a functional forward assist. The bolt catch would be nice. Still a .22 AR or AR style/type of rifle is a lot of fun in .22. One thing I found however was the 15 round mags were very reliable. The high capacity 27 rounds mags create lots of FTF and misfeeds. The M4 may be similar.

I have to agree with the Tactical Solutions upper, its great! This is me at a 3 gun rimfire match this weekend in Lethbridge. Mind you I did find the large capacity Black Dog magazines are very reliable when loaded with only 23 rds. Twinning the magazines was no problem to give you 46 rds of Federal bulk pack readily available. Its a hoot to shoot.

A guy on GlockTalk picked one up to have a look at it. Here is what he said:
I handled one today at a local gunshop, and had a few minutes to look it over.

The bolt does lock back on the last round, but the bolt release on the left side of the upper is non-functional (doesn't move, is just for looks, apparently). Once the magazine is removed, the bolt can be released to the forward position by pulling on the charging handle and releasing it. The stock was sloppy-loose on the extension tube, no matter what position it was locked in. The pistol grip appeared to be normal, but when I looked up into the base, the mounting screw had been relocated farther to the rear, and there was some kind of pin/lever sticking out of the old/original screw hole. No idea what's going on with that. The safety lever is flatter (less thick) than a normal AR, and must be moved 180 degrees to get to the fire position (what would be the "auto" position on an old-style M16/M16A1). Magazine seems fairly substantial, but is longer than a stock 30-shot AR mag.

Price: $650, with one mag (said the salesman).

Here's some more pics.

1st Time at Range with New Colt M4 .22 Rifle
I pick up a new Colt .22 M4 Carbine Rifle at my local Gun Shop in Walhalla, SC for $549 .

It looked pretty solid with a full metal frame (plastic grip handle), removable metal Carry Handle, and Adjustable Stock Length. It came with one, 30 round Magazine. So I went to the local range last night to try it out. Here are my very informal results, a few observations and overall thoughts:

1. I shot two 30 round magazines each of the following .22LR ammo: CCI Mini-Mags (Solid Points), Federal Champion Target (Hollow Points - walmart Value Pack), and Winchester Wildcats (Solid Point non-plated).

CCI: Zero - FTF, Zero - FTE, 2 Stove Pipes
Federal: One - FTF, Zero - FTE, 5 Stove Pipes
WildCats: Zero - FTF, Zero - FTE, 3 Stove Pipes

2. I did not do any formal accuracy testing, yet once I adjusted the sights (easily done on rear peep sight by simply turning the thumb wheel - mine was shooting high), I was consistenly putting rounds through a 8" target at 50 yard while standing. The rear Peep Sight has two opening sizes: "Too Large" and "Way Too Large" -This is personal preference so judge for yourself.

3. The Magazine was easily loaded using the side follower grips that allow you to compress the spring and load the rounds without having to press them in.

4. The Debris Door (covers the Chamber Port) on my rifle does not stay closed if closed. The spring loaded catch is there, yet a notch has been cut out of the port opening where the catch goes, so the door does not clip shut. I assume Walther has troubles with the door opening on the bolt retraction, and thus disabled the door to aesthetics only.

All in all it is a fun to shoot, and handles as expected from a AR style rifle. If I can not find a Rear Peep sight with a smaller apeture, I will probably mount the 4X32 tactile scope they advertise in the accessory manual.

I'll post more once I have a chance to return to the range.

Sounds like it's just a question of breaking it in or finding the right ammo.

I don't care how great those 30 rounders will work... I'm buying 10-20 round magazines.

LONG MAGAZINE IS LONG.

So, this may be a dumb question...but, if they are selling them in the US already, can't we buy them from a retailer down there, and have them shipped up? Or do we have to wait for them to be classified in Canada before we can import them? Also, do any of our retailers know a date when we might see them here? I've got my name on a list....waiting....waiting....waiting....waiting.

If we are not allowed to sell them here then you most certainly can't import one.
