I'm looking for some help finding out some information.

I have a very cool Colt Frontier six shooter from 1892. It's very beat up and even has a blow out in the cylinder. I have no intention of restoring it as I LOVE the condition it's in.

Anyways, I contacted colt to find out some information on it and of course they went through their records and came up with some cool stuff. However what was interesting was that they found 2 matches for the gun with the same serial.

What could that mean?

As well they told me that mine (after long discussions with them we concluded which one was mine) was a nickel finish, which this thing looks blued as hell, but if I look past the damage I can see a bit of silver shine.

Anyways, my question is - besides Colt where is the best place to look for info? I think I'd also like to track down this guys big brother seeing as they have matching serials. What's the best way of doing that?

You could try http://www.coltforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=17

PS, that last photo of the Colt by itself is so cool I set it as my computer wallpaper.

Will do! And thanks! I love these photos as well.

I love this piece - yes I could restore it as the parts are in pretty good working order. But why? A gun doesn't get this destroyed and beat up without a little effort and story. I think that's really cool and she looks beautiful like this :)

wow, looks like it was under floorboards for the last 100 years. What caliber is it?

.44-40

So here's what colt has listed.

Two revolvers with the same serials, one with 4 3/4 barrel with Nickel finish & one with 7 inch barrel with blued finish.

Doesn't that seem weird?

cool. Im looking at a 41 cal right now so it falls under antique. How did you come across it, what ya pay? yes im nosey

This firearm does not fall under antique in Canada, but only because of the caliber - which is silly.

Anyways, found it in a collection in Louisiana. Talked my way into a good price, which I won't disclose and purchased it. Shipped it to a friend in Tennessee while I spent 3 months trying to get the proper paperwork to get it to Toronto.

Once I got it all sorted out, went to TN for a vacation and when I came back I walked across the border, no problem, with the firearm.

Just adding to the guns history that probably already exists!
