OK, so I figure this one has been discussed before and I even seem to recall a thread on this, but a search turned up nothing.

Here is my question: I am used to Norinco etc 1911A1 types without the Series 80 firing pin block safety feature. Now I have acquired a Series 80 Gold Cup and find the trigger pull unusual with that little creep where you lift that plunger clear of the firing pin. The trigger breaks crisp at the end, but that little creep before you get to the final break kind of throws me off.

Does anyone else find this about Series 80s and do you have any tricks for dealing with it? And I am not about to disable the safety if that is what you are thinking. I am looking for mental tricks to overcome this.

Thanks,

That's easy.

Wear warrior gloves.

All of the cool kids are wearing them, and - so long as you wear the gloves - you won't feel a thing.

My series 80 would not fire out of the box. The fix ended up being a series 70 extractor and removal of all the extra series 80's parts. Site sponsor Armco provided the answers relatively cheap and very quickly.

Series 70 isn't just more reliable, in some cases it's actually safer.
BUT, a well tuned series 80 gun can be capable of the same performance in all aspects as series 70 gun.

You should have it checked, I had a Norinco 1911 and sold it and got a colt gold cup series 80 and love the trigger. There is O creep and very crisp. It's my favorite and most accurate handgun.

As a note of (possible) interest, disabling the Series 80 safety can disqualify the gun from NRA competitions since the rules require that all factory installed safety devices be fully functional. Just in case you plan on shooting a 2700 with it! :)

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I am going to get a smith to look at it.

And thanks for the advice about not disabling factory safety devices if shooting NRA. I was thinking more about the liabilty issues if God forbid anything happens while you are shooting.
