All right, I'll make this brief and simple.

I'm getting in the market for as close to a compact pistol as I can get without being 12(6). Right now, my options are between the Sig P229 and P239.

Anyone fired either?

I find the P229SAS would potentially make an excellent carry piece with its dehorned slide and frame and discreet hammer. I love mine. The DAK trigger takes some getting used to but it becomes second nature pretty fast...

The 229 is not really a compact pistol. It's basically a marginally shorter 226. The 239 is not only smaller but also thinner (being a single stack) and comes with a threaded barrel (so at least there is a functional reason for the 'appendage' barrel, even if we can't own suppressors).

You can have a look at this thread, and I also have a bunch of other threads about the 228, 229, 239 and NP34.

The 229 has a bit of a "stocky" feel to it. The frame is no different than a 228 frame, but for some reason the 229 has a stockier look and feel to it, to my mind.

I have two of the 229's and I really love them. I recommend the SRT trigger system these days, but you can definitely train yourself to become very adept at shooting a SIG with the normal reset trigger - if that is all (or at least mostly) what you shoot. Switching back and forth is tough.

If you could are looking for a good pistol, you could do a hell of a lot worse than any SIG 229.

If you want the smallest "stock" SIG, the 239 tactical in 9mm is the way to go. You can see in the thread that I posted above that the slide isn't much shorter than a 228 or 229 slide. The difference is that it is skinnier. The 239 is designed to be, a little bit smaller, and a lot flatter version of the full-size SIG. The slide is skinner. The frame is skinner. It is single stack, and the the slide release is recessed into the frame a lot more.

239 is smaller. If small is your thing, get it. We only have access to one model in Canada though (that I am aware of), the 9mm tactical with threaded barrel and SRT. I have one. They are nice guns.

A couple of potential downsides: the front strap is very flat. Some people don't like that. The grip is also a little on the small side for some people. Also, if you have the tendancy to hold the slide release lever down on SIGs, it is magnified with the 239.

Or you can get a Glock 19 with a restricted barrel .......
Thats pretty darn compact .
I think Questar has them .
If they dont they can get one 4 you..

That's the thing: I'm none too fond of Glocks in the first place and I am in the market for a small-frame "Sig" Sig. Not a Sig 1911.

I personally find that the the ergonomics of the 229 are better than the 226 (even though the grip sizes are pretty much the same, weird, isn't it?) and I'd definitely want something with the SRT trigger. Otherwise, I find that the standard Sig trigger is really long and has a lot of mush in SA.

So right now, I'm debating between a 229 SAS or SCT, or a 239.

Have considered the SIG PRO SP2022.
its not a compac, but its a service size gun I know Epps ain't to far from you and they got some with a restricted length barrel.

Got any pics of that thing?

Read the OP, amigo. I am NOT interested in another full-frame pistol right now. What I'm in the market for is a compact SIG. Not Glock. Not 1911. Not Beretta. Not S&W. Not Tokarev.

And besides, I don't rightly care for polymer frames in the first place. Something about a dishwasher-safe gun that's just sordid :D

the SP2022 will give you the size of the 229 at a cheaper price, a good choice. hee is the 2340 with a 229, the predecessor to the 2022.

I know this is not a Sig, but the smallest non-prohib is the P7M8/PSP very, very compact and so close to prohib that some were registered as prohib (mistakenly). The P239 is the smallest of the Sigs that we can get without 12.6.
