comparing 44 mag leverguns

am looking for a 44 mag levergun. the m92 looks interesting as i've heard the original 1892 design is very nice. just curious how this gun compares to the m94 winchester or 94 marlins? how are the henry's?

which one is tops?

oh, another thing. i understand browning did a run of 44-40 and 44 mag in an 1892. how hard are these to find , and at what price?

I own a Marlin, never had a problem with it, Winchesters are just as good only if you want to mount scope marlin is less of a hassle. I have heard the Henry's are pretty good as well but heard of one corroding quite badly on the brass receiver. Another thing is that if your are hunting you can have a round in the chamber and top up the magazine something you can't do wih the Henry.

im actually kind of upset at the moment, it would seem that the 18.5" 1894 is only available in .357. i really wanted a short barrel 44 to pack around, i mean a 20" version, well i may as well haul my 444 with me.

f$$$ marlin! maybe they can go bankrupt and make me happy. i was actually going to buy one tommrow.

is nobody out there wanting short bbl 44's or what? i seem to come across a lot of people clamouring for them on the internet and gunshops tell me that when they get a trapper model in, that they are sold very quickly.

really wanted to go with marlin, but it looks like puma is the only game in town for new short bbl 44 levers, unless i can find a marlin or even a winchester used...
 
ah, woe is me. seems according to people online that the marlin is worlds better than the puma, which apparently is inconsistent for quality. guess ill just have to scour the used market. :(
 
Henry Repeating Arms!! I like my Marlins, but after getting a Henry It has taken number 1 position. It is a smooth cycleing lever gun, accurate as a laser beam and so pretty you'd hate to shoot it. Can't wait for the local store to get some more in, Im gonna grab a 30/30 and a 357mag.
 
well, i read an article on the henry, pretty accurate im told. still, sure do wish they, or marlin made a nice short bbl version
 
The Henry's are nice and quality seems to be right up there..they seem bulky and heavy to me though ?

The Pumas are made by Rossi...can be hit and miss qualtity wise but I've seen a few Good ones...my bud has one in 454 casull, it's pretty slick and well put together for a 92 clone.

For me the Win 94 is out when chambered for pistol rounds.....it is a rifle and was built for rifle rounds(30-30,38-55 and such) They bastardized it to cycle the shorter pistol rounds....seen alot of junky 94's crap out on the line.

If you can find one, the Browning 92's are probably the best, quality wise, fit and finnish etc. But you will pay for this.

Marlin 94's are the Goto levergun for pistol cartridges. They work, and work well, simple, easy to clean and strip. A great design and thanks to CAS shooting plenty of parts to slick em up nice are out there.

For my money I'd look at a 94SS in 44mag.....if the 20" barrel is too much get 2"s wacked off ;)
Would make a nice 18" lil thumper ! :cool:

I've got a stainless puma and a Marlin 94 in 44Mag. The Puma is definately a bit lighter and slimmer but I would trade it for another marlin any day. That light little bugger with the stainless buttplate definately lets you know it's there.
 
I have/had both the Browning 92 and the Marlin 1894 in 44 mag...the Marlin would be the first choice just because they are drilled and tapped for sights or a scope...but the 92 has the slicker action that is for sure.
 
What’s that funny bumpy lookin thingy in front of the lever on those Marvins???? Hmmmm.....

Browning 92 now,,,........ didn't he invent it? I have been watching for one these.

I love lever guns but I hunt with one of those (fugly) Ruger 44s

Remember the real answer if you can't make up your mind buy one of each.
