comparing 44 mag leverguns

am looking for a 44 mag levergun. the m92 looks interesting as i've heard the original 1892 design is very nice. just curious how this gun compares to the m94 winchester or 94 marlins? how are the henry's?

which one is tops?

oh, another thing. i understand browning did a run of 44-40 and 44 mag in an 1892. how hard are these to find , and at what price?

cheers
:D
Own a Model 96 Ruger in .44 Mag......I also own its cousin a Ruger Model 44 carbine (looks like a Ruger Model 10/22) semi auto .44 Mag that is not available on the market anymore......discontinued in 1986.

They're both as light as a feather and great shooters and shoot the same ammo as my S&W Model 29 & Ruger Vaquero revolvers.

I have used all four of the above for deer hunting in the US & the .44 Mag caliber is adequate for this job as most sightings are within 150 yards where I hunt in Maine.

Life Memberships: NRA, GOA, CSSA, NFA, OFAH
CCW Permits: Utah, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Maine

decided to go with the marlin, which i ordered today. price was too good to refuse, stainless model was only 50.00 more than the puma equavalent, in fact the dealer i see is selling it for the old price, which is about 300.00 less than everywhere else. gotta love small town dealers!;)

I have both a 1906 mfg Winchester M92 SRC in .44 Magnum and a Marlin M1894S in .44 magnum that I use for Cowboy Action shooting. While the Winchester has the slicker action and more ergonomic, I can't get used to the brass ejecting straight up on a 10 rd string, plus I have found that the front sight of the Marlin is easier to pick up for snap shooting. I have over 12,000 rds through both carbines combined and I wouldn't sell either. I also have a Browning B92 in .357 magnum that is a perfect gun for taking ladies shooting.

Maybe a picture would be in order and a report on the results of your first outing?????
Sounds like a great purchase.

Excellent Choice:cool:

Marlin 44mag 16 inch barreled Talo model. Worked great on my largest Texada buck and if I ever get to go on my dream hunt for cougar it's what I'll be packing. Better yet last night I bought a Marlin 1895 SDT Trapper on Gunbrokers and I hope the export process goes smoothly because I love those short barrels. Marlin should make them a regular production item in several calibers, but then again my wife would divorce me for buying too many. LOL

I have a few carbines in pistol calibers. I know this gun isn't a lever gun but I just wanted to mention the lonely ruger 77/44 rifle. This little rifle got a bad rep for poor accuracy but mine personally has been very accurate. It's cousin is the ruger 96 and as far as I am concerned the whole ruger line of carbines make a fine choice.
I also have a marlin 1894c which I love.

oh yeah? what's the process like bringing in stuff from the states?

Oh by the way, I almost forgot to mention the Ruger #3 in .44 mag.

This one likes those SWC cast 250 gr "keith" bullets with 19.7 grs of A-2400 powder.....:shotgun:

M1978 I will let you know when it's all said and done. Right now it looks expensive, a lot of paperwork, and a long wait. First time I've tried it and likely my last. the only reason I'm doing it is because that particular rifle is exactly what I've been wanting. After I've done all of this Marlin will make it a regular item and sell it here for half of what this ones going to cost. Or at least that's how my luck usually works. Sorry for getting a bit off topic.

yes, lamenting leverguns we should not have gotten rid of....

in my case a .356 big bore. was nice.

still, i have been reading online that a lot of guys say of all there guns the 44 mag levers are the most fun. i have a feeling that this will be the case with me as well, as long as the thing shoots well that is.

there certainly seems to be much enthusiasm whether the gun is a marlin, winchester or rossi/puma. i'd wager a .357 would be fun too :D

I have lots of 38spc that would be fun to go out of .357 lever does browning make a b92 in .357, something new to look for??

marlin arrived today, just shot at a coffee can and a tide box before hightailing it back inside. -35+ winchill today.

a friend of mine gave a thumbs up on the look of the rifle, stainless does have a nice look to it i guess. i expected the bolt and reciever to fit a little better, but this is a cosmetic quibble, its not really that bad, it just doesn't look as good as the one on their website ;)

hopefully , it will prove decently accurate, there are some pigeons out back that need fixing. 44 special and 200 gr xtp should take care of that.

one interesting thing, i noticed compared to a win 94 that the marlin *just* feeds the roundnose 44 specials (rem factory), which seem quite a bit longer than my reloads. the winchester has lots of space. so, once the weather warms up a bit, i guess ill have to have a shootout and see which one performs better accuracy-wise.

It's funny how a wee bit of nippy weather couldn't stop us from taking a few shots with a new toy.

By the way I did find that the browning 92 did come in 357 but not many looks like a long shot in the dark, maybe I'll look for a marlin.

Enjoy the new rifle
