I have a PAL so I can not own a hand gun.

Am interested in looking at some reasonable priced antique pistols,

is it easy to find ammo?

can someone point me towards a reasonably priced model that works well? and is easy to find?

NOT TOO EXPENSIVE!!! less than 1000$!!!!!! hopefully a lot less (am a student)

THANKS GUYS

If you want a functional antique revolver at an manageable price you will need to roll your own ammunition. These guns "all of them" are not getting any cheaper... and they are getting harder to find as well.

The least expensive antique revolvers are the pinfires. Ammunition is much more of a challenge than centerfire, or even rimfire.
Pinfires and the little percussion popguns can still be had for under $300, sometimes less.
Spur trigger .32 rimfires are also lower priced, as these things go. There are workarounds to enable these to be fired.
Large, well made centerfire cartridge revolvers, in sound condition, for with ammunition can be purchased or readily made, have become very expensive, including clunkers which have been altered, refinished, etc. If there are changes in the antique regulations, there will be weeping, wailing and the gnashing of teeth. Some folks are going to end up stuck with overpriced guns with no inherent collector value.

Careful guys with sending this one any offers to sell. Don't get me wrong I'm all for helping new people into the hobby, but looking at post history this one just feels wierd. Other than the Oct join date and homing precision on some "big bad topics" we have;

A; he either needs to re-read the EE rules for some of those WTB ads or he's reaaaaaaaally excited. 2 WTB SR-22 ads in rimfire, 3 WTB VZ58 ads in modern military, 2 CZ 858 WTB ads in modern military. Either very focused and eager on what he wants or given a shopping list of scary looking non-restricted.

B; all ads are "needs to be cheap" yet he's looking to spend at least $4000 in seperate purchases this month? This isn't including this newest inquiry into antiques. I remember being a student and I got to say I don't remember such a budget for guns, I was more concerned with food and rent.
C; everything he's into needs to look like it belongs on Call of Duty. Really all he needs is a WTB ad for a Mini-14 and we'd have a good case for a Wendy shill .

Of course none of this is the obvious screaming leftist shill type, but still handle with care on this one folks.

Now as for the OP, "cheap" ""antique" and "modern ammo" aren't words that go together. If you desire a cheap pistol that fires modern ammo perhaps you should go back and get your restricted license and get into Norinco pistols, Canadaammo.com has been known for wicked Norinco 1911 and .45acp ammo deals. For antiques you're going to find two classes here, one being the ability to shoot modern and these are usually converted somehow and not cheap (none under $1000), and the other being a collector which again are not cheap. Well I guess there's the fixer upper class and relics, but you seem to want to be able to fire it so these are eliminated from the shopping list.

Finally OP you have to be careful and responsible in firing an antique. Consider it like you would a restricted class firearm and target shoot it at a range. If you can't afford one due to you being a student I doubt you could also afford $50000 in lawyers and litigation fees should you happen to break the law with one or a overzealous OPP or CO decides to lay charges and test the law. Be careful, be discreet, and be responsible and you'll enjoy the hobby.

Antiques are not a viable way to get into the shooting sports. It would be like buying a 75 year old antique car to drive to school - not practical, not reliable, not cheap, and not a good idea. New handguns are stronger, more accurate, more reliable and more durable. Spare parts, repairs, and ammo are readily available for new guns but very rarely for antiques. There are no reasonably priced antiques with readily available ammo. If you want reasonable prices and availability then get your RPAL and buy a regular restricted handgun for less than a third the price of antique, and buy your ammo off the shelf.

after reading some of his recent posts, I have to agree; something smells. He has no RPAL but wants to buy modern handguns and in other posts wants to shoot on crown land rather than at a range. He must be 19 or over to have a PAL which implies that he is a student at a university and yet some of his grammar makes me question that

Completely agree with the advice for caution, the Op sets off alarm bells for me too. I hope to be proven wrong but when considered in conjunction with the CZ858 posts it sure looks like a low level attempt at mischief. Sounds just like a community college student doing a paper on how easy it is to buy a "bad" gun and misuse it. Possibly a ryerson college graduate sucking up and trying to get on the payroll with CGC or some such example of an anti / troll org that means us harm. Be careful. "the lone gunman" - really??

Here I'll finish your Ryerson Universtat term paper for you,
Cheap and affordable to shoot antique doesn't exist.
The tricky libertards put in a lot of thoughts when making these law.
If you look around, the cheapest antiques you can find are in 32 S&W, oh hey, 32 S&W are on the verboten list, along with all the brand name 32s, 38s
Finally you've come to the conclusion that umm...I guess I'll just look for big bore 44s, well them liberal boys thought of that too, that is why the most common antique 44 in the era 44-40 are one the verboten list.
If you're lucky enough to find something that shoots 44 Russian or 44 American the price is usually up to the roof.

Then finally you've come to the conclusion that you should just get a cheap little 32 rimfire and search very hard for ammo, well good luck on that too, the most "antique" ammo I've seen in gun shows are the same thing sold at Canadian Tire, except these are like 10 years old.

Oh, and if you're thinking what if I convert those 32 rimfire to shoot centerfire ammo, well if you look it up, the most dimensional close round to a 32 rf is 32 S&W, oh snap that is on the verboten list isnt it?

At this point you should just about giving up and start looking for your next tacticool 22s, and be like yeah.... I remember what life was like when I was only shooting 22s, it so cheap to feed and I don't have to eat a week of ichban noodle to pay for ammo cost...

Now stop fishing and go finish your paper.

Hi,

Thanks for your concern. I thought my cgn name was funny - did not mean to frighten people.

I'm actually a perfectly normal law student from southwestern ontario. Won a scholarship.

I have a little money saved up and am interested in building my gun collection.

I think of these guns as investments, and they're cool.

I currently own a 870 Remington which I have not shot yet.

I plan to shoot it at the range or at my buddy's farm.

I am interested in learning about guns and this category of antique guns is interesting.

Thanks for all the helpful info

X2--Gave me goose bumps too, CZ 858 and Hmmm no Rpal wants-- cheap antique pistol that is easy to find ammo for ---- Not what is the most affordable, collectible antique pistol that I could shoot as well.

I guess the way I worded things is wrong.

What's wrong with the cz858? I made many posts about it as I was indecisive on the csa or the cz 858.

I made multiple EE postings because I could not bump.

I don't appreciate all this prejudice.
