Considering versamax or browning Maxus

What i like is the way it balance in my hand and the fact that Benelli stated that the M4 wont need to change a part before 25,000 shots... Kind of worth the extra 350.00 and when the U.S adopt a shotgun for their army, you can be sure that it is the most reliable available... JP. Cheers.

US army means nothing they have a tender process lowest bid to specification not the best all the time, thus have bought some trash over the years also. Not saying the M4 is a bad gun you like it and it fits you fine. If the browning fits the OP not worth the extra cash for the M4 since the Maxus will perform as well if not better.
I have 35 year old super x-1's here with over 125,000 rounds with just a $10 bolt buffer replaced there is not a semi made today going to do that. 25,000 is nothing and just a couple of years of shooting if you are a competitive shooter and in 20 years we won't even remember what a M4 was. take care:)

Oh yes have you ever shot a maxus ?? and compared

Yes i did and not saying nothing against it, first time i shot a M4, i was so impress by the handling, the lack of recoil, the reliability that finally i kept 2 in my herd... JP.:) Did you ever shot a M4...

Sure have Read my earlier post

I paid 350 more for my M4 over my maxus and there is nothing the browning cannot do compared to the m4 so why pay the extra cash if you are only going to buy one

I have been fortunate to try most out there and currently still own a fair amount of semi's Not many semi's in shot gun other than a versa max I did't own at one time. I was all set to buy a versamax also until the recall, might be fine today I don't really know When new ones come out I usually give one a wirl and hate to give up old ones that work well so the herd grows other than the few mossberg and a couple other lower grade makes I tried. take care:):)

Not about winning. I just like shotguns period. Both are great guns and to each their own. I just don't see the extra 350 worth it after using both..
Why do you own so many probally same reason I have 4 golds and more 1100's than fingers and toes
It is a disease with no cure and I have had it since the 60's Cheers:)

:agree:... JP.

I was comparing the Maxus with the Benelli SBE II, and between those two, I picked the Maxus. But it was close.

It is the SBE II that doesn't care for light loads.

the versa for me . like it , anything from light skeet loads to 3in goose loads and o problems .dont use 3.5 shells as the fellows ive been hunting with can call them in close .

I bought a browning maxus rifled deer and love the gun, however aas playing with some 2-3/4 target trap loads and some reduced recoil slug loads and it would not cycle. Just gave it a good cleaning prior and everything seemed good. Seems only to like the heavier loads .... seems other don't have this problem ... any suggestions?? Have been meaning to call browning to see what thier thoughts are but havent made the call yet.

You shouldn't be shooting trap loads from a rifled barrel. As far as cycling the cheap ammo, I have put lots of boxes of that thru my gun and never had any issues. It will chew up the trap loads just as good as the heavy loads.

Why should one not use trap loads in a rifled barrel. The browning manual says I can pretty much shoot anything. No question accuracy and shot pattern go out the window...

Lets see. Talking just lead Big hole in center of the pattern, useless beyond 20 yards, excessive lead and plastic build up which is real hard to clean and will effect slug accuracy later and if done over a long period of time will wear rifle grooves.

I haven't shot a Maxis but I did look at it and was really impressed with the gun itself. Any B gun would make most any shooter happy. I cant wait to get down the list of my "to buy" guns where it says Beretta :) . Out of all my shotguns right now my favorite to shoot is my 28" VersaMax. Im up to 3000+ rounds and haven't had any of the quality issues I read on here all the time about the VersaMax. With one exception, the mag tube nut has come loose on my gun after about 25-30 rounds. I have since sovled the problem myself with a bit of pipe thread sealer tape around the threads. I know Remington has a new style mag tube nut for the VersaMax that has fixed the problem on their end. I actually wonder if the people who comment on the VersaMax actually own one or are jumping on the "it's cool to bash Remington" bandwagon. At any rate, I own the versa max and love it to death. I posted some vids in another thread but I guess it doesn't translate well in the search feature lol. Here is the link again for the OP.

I'm sorry but remington deserves to be bashed most times. I have been shooting their semi's since the 60's and love remington still have many and tried every new model they released in shotguns except the versamax .Quality started to drop off around 86 and I first experienced problems with my new 1187 bought the year after which split a bolt after it's 1st 13 rounds. Ok we fixed it, moved on and no problems with it after so when the 1187 super mag came out picked up a new one. What a piece of junk could never get it to cycle correctly, then a kit came out etc etc. Then we hear about this new shotgun which was going to be their flag ship the NEW Versamax. Ok we will give it a try, all set to order in one and bang you are hit with this
cancel your order and pick up a new winx3.

I think rem created their own bandwagon and it is going to take many more positive feedbacks like yours to get even us old die hard rem fans to pick one up and give it a chance again. Just my 2 cents. take care

No problem and no offence taken. Just stating my experience with my VERSAMAX. No doubt Remington needs to step up in some areas, and as far as the VERSAMAX goes they have in my opinion. And we are talking VERSAMAX here. But hey, it's my opinion with proof to back it up. Something I see very little of on the Internet. My comments are not directed at one individual, including you 3macs1. Im sure you have been around WAY longer than I have in this game. As far as the recall goes, that was 2 years ago now. I know for a fact the problems that happened in a few of the early VERSAMAX were solved and Remington actually stoped all production and pulled every one off the shelves untill the problem was resolved. My opinion is that in its price range, you would have a hard time finding a better option.

Not true.
Local shop sales flyer as we speak.
All are camo finish, all are 3 1/2"
Versamax $1294
Browning Silver $1199
Win X3 $1099
Never seen any recalls on the other two or posted issues so why would one take a chance on the rem??. Not saying it is not a good gun maybe it is but I would like to see more positive feedback like yours
To me I own a few browning gold and win super x1, x2 for years
So I think you can see why I cancelled my versamax order at the time and got a X3.
I may pick up a used one some day and give it a try but to me there are options in the price range and ones that have a great history of preformance so why take the risk. In my opinion it hasn't earned it's tail feathers at this stage. May prove to be the greatest semi of all time and hope it does for remington's sake.Take care

Buddy of mine has a maxus... The gun was good the first duck season except for bead broke off... Fastforward to now and he hates it jams all the time in the duck blind. I'd go with a xtrema 2 can pick one up new and camo for 1200.

anytime you shoot you decrease barrel life ... fact of numbers and physics!!

i never stated anything about routine use ... just tired a few rounds normally used for my browning sproting o/u.

regarding lead build up.. i would get more from slugs ... for most trap target I've used are steel ... retarding wads i personally dont see a big difference between shot and slug, for they both have a wad

but yah i agree ... dont shoot target/ reduced recoil out of this firearm .. because they dont cycle!! and yah they like to be cleaned or you will spend days cleaning ... as i have done
