Does anyone know the legalities of winning a firearm as a prize in shooting competition in the U.S. and importing it back into Canada?
If it's a SIG P320, they cannot export it - Military firearm. I won one last year and ended up selling it to a friend.
If it's on a gift certificate, and it can take 9 months to receive, it will more than likely say "Must be a US citizen residing in the US."
If it's on a prize table, then an FFL dealer who is licensed to export must be used.
Sell it down there and buy up here. Too much aggro.
Could you sell it to a local gun shop or pawn shop?
If it's a certificate you could - if they wanted it; but you can't take physical possession of the gun to do that.
Some big matches that know they're getting a lot of foreigners will offer a buyback for cash during the awards.

I got $350 for an M&P certificate one year.
$250 for a EAA Force another year.
(The guy buying the certs back usually makes decent $$ in the process.)
I won a revolver several years ago and not knowing what the process was I contacted a friend who is a Canadian Dealer that imports firearm for people. He looked after everything and all I paid was a brokers fee. The gun came in with a shipment of other guns he was importing and the best part was it almost beat me home from the US.
