Controlled Deer Hunts Ontario

I'm zone 80 that has a november shotgun and december muzzleloader. I asked about doing both and quickly was told, no way, choose one. If this is your situation, I'm sure you are SOL as well.

That issue in Ontario has always concerned me. The MNR has continually preached about over abundant deer populations (if not pests) in Southern Ontario. They respond by allowing some hunters in a large number of zones to get tags for up to 7 deer ! (6 additional tags and 1 deer licence). Sure, at 38 bucks a pop!!! What a crock, if they were serious about reducing deer numbers allowing hunters to put in for more than one controlled hunt would be an appropriate move. They'd still get the licence revenue

No with the controlled hunt you have always only been allowed to hunt one WMU and only one of the seasons early or late. I would love to be able to hunt both the early and late or the early one and a muzzleloader. That is the way it has always been but I would love if they changed it. I hunt 85b in the early Nov. hunt and man that would be awesome to sit in a tree stand for the Dec. hunt in 86.

I've hunted 81A for the last 7 years. I think this year will be the last. Starting to loose all our good spots. The best spot we have, The neighbours build a new house right infront of the best shooting lanes. So no more shooting there. Still lots of deer around but not good for shotgun anymore. Plus a lot of the neighbouring properties have hunters as well and it sounds like a war on opening morning. Have to bow hunt there I guess and go up farther north for a rifle season.

you are only allowed to hunt in one controlled hunt and thats a good thing. its bad enough dealing with all the morons during the november hunt and id hate to have to deal with them during the december hunt as well.

we have 3 months of bow hunting and 1 week for the controlled hunts which is plenty of time to tag a few deer.

The whole point of a "Controlled Hunt" is to control the number of hunters to a total that the area can sustain. These hunts are in WMUs with high population density and along with limiting the number of hunters, they typically limit the firearms used to shotguns and muzzleloaders, so that the likelihood of errant shots entering populated areas is limited. There are often plenty of deer, so at times extra tags are issued.

I hunt 85C and do not want more hunters.

There is nothing stopping you from hunting the one Controlled zone that you've drawn a tag for, in addition to any of the other Non-Controlled Zones.
