This has become a fun little project.
A fellow on here has been kind enough to offer me a 5" barrel that will work. Spoke to my smith this morning and he'll polish and blue the new tube and install. Total cost for the project is a titch over $200.
For purposes of the course, the gun must be disabled and not dewatted. I'll pull the firing pin and I'm good to go. I'm conscious of the fact that I won't always be teaching this course - might want to quit in 20 or so years - and it'd be nice to have something that wasn't cut up like a Christmas turkey, and easily restored to shooting condition.
Thanks for the suggestions, lads. Just for poops and laughs I'll give Del Selins a buzz and see what they have that'll work.

Wow, lucky you. I used to have a WTB 4.2" or longer S&W model 10 barrels and nothing ever came up. The only barrels I found were for a model 14 and cost $250 IIRC, add in gunsmith and it wasn't a cheap venture. It's too bad too because a fellow was trying to sell a few prohib model 10s and 13s for cheap. You just had to supply the barrel and he'd take them to his gunsmith and get it registered as restricted. I don't think he had any luck either because now I see that he had them all dewatted.
I'd still like to get my hands on a barrel for a decent price. I'm not picky either since I don't own the revolver. I'd take anything that would work on a model 10/13, Colt PPS or Ruger Security Six (have a WTB up for the Ruger).
