converting AR15 upper to side-cocker?

Yeah I found that already... it looks like a different design though, I think that handle is kind of like the top charging handle on standard ARs. It doesn't move with the bolt. (I could be wrong)

Its a much beefier upper as well.

Why do you have to use the charging handle after a mag change? Am I missing something here? Only time I use the charging handle is to charge for the first round, and to deal with a stoppage and clear the rifle. Otherwise, I just slap the bolt catch.

Naa. You aren't missing anything. I was posting when I should have been sleeping..
When I shoot service rifle I take up my shooting position and wait for the command to load. With a side cocker I wouldn't have to move my head.
Where the mag change thing came from..who the hell knows! :redface:

This is true, but I get the occasional failure to lock back on last round so a side-cocker would definitely help.
 
I can offer free machining for this project as I am curious of the results. Just pay shipping here and back, I can also do the handle.

BUT

I will machine the upper and carrier to YOUR dimentions and assume ZERO, NADA, ZILDCH responsability for the survavibility of the said modified upper and carrier.

Just a foot note. I have complete trust in Lee's design and his ability. Remember all those great shotguns that Scattergun Tech put out? Well, before Wilson's bought them out, Lee was the head gunsmith and designed, built a lot of them.

Gents these are used all the time here due to no semi rules above .22lr. Here they started with a lever that came out of the ejection opening and went back to an external handle. the next obvious thing was to ,mill out a slot as on the other shown already. At The Imperial meeting some of the US national gd were sufficiently impressed to look at buying one as a bolt gun for accuracy only. As for the FAL16 thing there is little reason why a full disconnecting cocking piece couldnt fit as per the C1 L1A1 etc.
 
I do have the book. I never read that chapter because I've never been interested in doing it, but from what I recall it looked like a step by step with many pics. I'll confirm tonight, if someone else doesn't before then.
 
Thanks, I appreciate it. If its enough info I'll just pony up the 12 bucks (or whatever?) for the book... hopefully I can get it online and not have to wait on the actual print to arrive.
 
So it's about 7 pages of step by step with pics. In the text he goes through it in what seems to be great detail. Whether it's got every last bit of information you are going to need or not, I have no idea. You could always email him and ask.
