Hi! My friend asked me to look at a 1960-70 model 600 Winchester made at Coburg. With an empty chamber and mag tube, the action is stiff but works. When fired, it’s almost impossible to open the chamber/bolt. This is a funny set up that I’ve never seen before. The mag tube moves forward as the bolt is moved forward and rotated into battery. I basically have to hit the bolt with my palm, which inevitably spills a few rounds out of the tube. I’m thinking the extractors are too tight and chamber must be peened over. I could not manually place a round in the chamber. So open the extractors up or /and open the chamber up? Should a round just fall in /out of the chamber? Thanks for any info. Cheers

The bolt engages a bracket that attaches to the mag tube. If you take the knurled nut off the front of the trigger guard you'll be able to lift the action clear of the stock. Try loosening the lock nut a bit that sets the space between that bracket and the bolt. If it's too tight to the barrel it'll bind the action.

The design is such that it must be fed through the tube. The extractor isn't designed to snap over the rim of a single fed cartridge.
Follow the advice of Sir Bumsnag.

I'm sure you will find your answer here, but just in case you can't, there is a FB group just full of Cooey addicts that might provide a solution for you. That 600 is a real nice shooter. I have one, really enjoy it.

Thanks for the advice. I see what you mean about the nut holding the tube to the bolt. There seems to be enough space to cycle the action. When I said I tried to place a round in the chamber I did it by hand and didn’t use the bolt.

I can confirm that if the stock nut isn't tightened in the right way, it will bind on the mag tube ( which must be free to move ) and jam up the action. I would look there first before doing anything drastic to the bolt.
