In another thread I was asked if I'd post a pic of some Cooey boxes I had. So here is a bit of nastolgia for Cooey collectors. I also have a few boxes of the newer Winchester/Cooey with the model 64's in them. All boxes have the gun inside. Original Cooey boxes were quite plain with just the ends marked on them, nothing fancy. I doubt one would find another Eatonia or Model 62 box in Canada, especially the Eatonia boy's rifle. The box and gun are around 80 years old. The model 62 is the one that has the blue faded writing on the end. It is basically a model 60 that had a provision for the peep sight on the rear. It came with 2 apertures of different sizes for the peep. The second aperture is in the box with the gun.The model 60 that says drilled and tapped for an N3 mount is a presentation gun from DH Cooey to a salesman. I have an unopened N3 mount and 7/8" Weaver scope in the box to go with it.

Pretty nice, I normally scrap the boxes as I don't have space to store them.

Yes, I have many more guns that do not have boxes and I too would not have room for a lot of boxes. However, as in anything old, having the original box ups the value and in the case of the Eatonia, the box is probably worth the value of the gun---to a collector that is.

That was me that asked to see them, and thanks for taking the time. Very cool. My favourite is the mod60 box showing it was D&T'd. I would very much be interested in the original scope. But, I would use it, so knowing that I would basically ruin it's value no one I know that has one is willing to let me defile it.

Now, if only I can sort out if the pair I just bought are unfired. I skipped bringing them out this weekend because I'm still unsure, but now I think it's just a matter of 'who cares'. I really want to use them, so I'm not going to dwell on it.

Well, I guess if you aren't a collector, it doesn't really matter. Also, you have no way of knowing really if they have been fired or not. Therefore as far as value, most wouldn't pay any more than what an excellent example would bring. So you might as well use them. You can still keep them in excellent condition if used.

Agreed, and you're correct - I'm a shooter, not a collector. Even though for some sick reason I want to shoot collector rifles.

I have a 60 that I know has been fired (because I've put 1000's down the pipe), but you'd think it has been sitting on a wall for a few decades. Still looks great, operates perfect.-
