Hi Folks,
Some of you Cooey enthusiasts may be aware of this but just in case you're not I'm letting you know that I am compiling a list of military Model 82 Cooey rifles and their whereabouts. Back on 1942/43 the Canadian Government contracted H. W. Cooey Machine & Arms Company to manufacture and deliver 34,810 of these rifles. This run of rifles is unique in that each rifle bears a serial number stamped into the bottom of the pistol grip, a government stamp in the barrel above the chamber and C Broad Arrow stamp in the flat portion of the bolt handle. Some may even have an RCAF stamp on the stock. There was also a civilian model made but it has no such markings.
This list is being put together for the sake of interest only. I have 35 rifles in Canada and 2 in the US listed so far.
It would be great to find out where more of these well built, accurate rifles are living these days. Maybe some of you used them as Cadet drill rifles just as I did.
If you would like to see the list and to get your 82 on the list then go to our Facebook group " Cooey Military 82 Collectors Group " ask to join, get a go ahead and then have a look around. Maybe you'll see that your buddy has posted their rifle and you may want to get together on the range for an 82 shoot.
Thanks,
Hugh
