So quite some time ago my Grandpappy gave my dad a Cooey 75, then years later my dad game me his Cooey 75, and now we're luckily still able to own firearms, so the plan is to get my son into junior rifles and I plan to give it to him. Problem is it was starting to show age. We're REALLY good to firearms in this family...the cooey even has the original bore brush, but the finish has seen better days. I damn well forgot to snap a pic but it looked almost identical to this:

So I took it apart, re-blued the parts (they were in good shape, didn't do the barrel, it is like new), and sanded the stock:

Got it down to bare wood, with just one ding I couldn't get out and a bit of discolouration around the buttstock, and then hit it with a coat of Tru-oil:

I sanded it with 1000 grit sandpaper and then did a few more coats with 000 steel wool in between.

I did one light 'buffing' with the steel wool after the last coat to just knock down the shine a bit and reassembled:

I'm very pleased with the finish. Do know that if it had been an old war horse I wouldn't have touched the finish, but hopefully it's nice enough that it will get passed down a few more times in the family
