So from time to time we all get a deer which needs a second shot to put it down. i am not thrilled with the idea of having to dispatch a deer a foot away with a 300 grain shotgun slug doing 2000fps.
One, i dont necessarily like deer brains all over my self and my gear. Secondly I dont want to damage more meat than i really have to. Lastly you never know what is under the deer, its head could be hiding a rock.
Having gone through this weekend where someones deer ended up needing three shots to stay down I have decided to "experiment" some.
Hopped in my shot and made one of these adapter thingys. I figure the anemic 38S&W would be about right. I have my choice of 145 or 200 grain bullets. I will be casting these myself out of soft lead.
I will develop the load till it will pass through a piece 3/8" plywood. Worst case scenario it will knock it out long enough to cut the throat
Looking forward to the testing phase.
(All this would be easier if you were able to carry a small caliber pistol while you are hunting)
