Cooper Firearms, what options? POST 38 need your GLASS opinions!

" Out of the three Coopers that we own, two rifles we ordered by selecting our wood blanks. One blank was from Clay and the other from Watts Walnuts. Watts Walnuts mailed my blank directly to Cooper where later I informed Clay and Cooper of my intentions. The gun is chambered for a 6.5x284 Norma and the only option I added was the Classic Custom checkering and a 26 inch barrel. I received my firearm 7 months after I ordered it.................great service!"

Ooo, the options!! Check out this supplier of stock blanks and pick your favorite:

Thanks West250, I am familiar with Goby along with Wrights, Luxus et al. Beaucoup' blank dealers in the good old U.S. of wide America. Choices is almost endless which is nice for guys who love wood on their firearms. I found that Clay and Watts Walnuts had the best wood for the money.................Luxus are the most expensive.

I wouldn't even think about synthetic. Nice wood, high gloss bluing would be a must for me. Personally not a fan of engraving. Custom serial #'s would be a cool touch. Gotta top it off with a Leupold.

Wolverine had a great deal on the Schmidt & Bender 6x a few weeks ago. That would be a nice scope on a classy wood stocked rifle.

And options I would consider (in addition to nice wood):

Skeleton butt
Skeleton grip cap
Inlayed Sling Swivels
Checkered bolt knob
Case color metal

And, I might consider it in Mannlicher style, but if not then an ebony fore-end would be a must.

Call me a traditionalist, but I LOVE deep blue and fancy wood on a rifle. [See image below.]

You can choose whichever little extras you want to personalize the Cooper.

My scope choice would be Leupold 3.5-10 B&C.
Nothing wrong with the 243, [even though I am a 6mm Remington guy,] lol.

Enjoy those fine rifles!!

x2!

While I like fiddleback, I really like burl and feather crotch!

My buddy bought a Cooper in 25-06 AI and he shot a cow moose with it.only problem was the front swivel stud fell out as he was chasing the moose leaving his bi-pod flopping around. Why would the you not use a nut and bolt type stud? He was told he would be getting his dies and Norma brass from Prophet Arms but instead they sent him Rem brass and have not resolved the issue. He likes the gun but not the after purchase service.

Yea, that's what I'm talkin about. Now take that out into the big timber and you've arrived in my happy place...

FWIW, This rifle with the fancy lumber has been hunting multiple times.

It is chambered in 8x57, and has taken 3 moose, 2 Muleys, and 3 Black bears.

Whether they are pretty or not, they are tools, and deserve to be used.

Regards, Eagleye

My wife & I just placed our order with Clay @ Prophet River for two Classic Model 54 rifles, one in 243, one in 308.

They will have custom consecutive serial numbers, checkered bolt knobs, 24 inch barrels, matched dark knotty wood (wife's request, he he) and a custom length of pull of 12.5 inches for her rifle while mine will be the standard 14.25

Pics to follow... In six months... LIFE IS GOOD!!!

Cheers

Hurray! It's always fun to have something to look forward too...

Took mine out last weekend for 4 days in the pouring rain. Banged it up, washed out some of the oil finish and got it a little rusty - now it's broken in!

:sniper:

Just received word the excalibur i ordered is at Prophet River. It's a 30:06 with stainless barrel and action. I will post pics when it arrives at my house hopefully sometime next week. Not gonna lie...I'm a little pumped.

It will be the first all stainless Cooper in anybody's hands in Canada.
We did have EXC in 280 AI, 260 Rem and 6.5 Creedmoor come in all stainless too (with olive/black stocks) but they are for store inventory, not going right out.

I am still hoping to have one of the the first all stainless Model 56 Jackson Hunters, whenever they start building them.

Hey Guys;

I'm considering putting the Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 with the Rapid Z-600 reticle on both rifles... I don't want a big & bulky scope with a 30mm tube or tons of magnification... Thoughts?

Essentially, I am looking for something in the 1.5 to 10 variable power range... So, 1.5 to 8 works, 2.5 to 10 works, 3 to 9 works... You get the idea...

Suggestions? I want to do these rifles justice with glass, they will be family heirlooms...

Thanks in Advance!

Cheers
Jay

The 3-9x40 Con quests would be a great choice, but I would also consider the Swarovski Z3 in 3-9x36. If you go with the Swarovski. the BRH is a better choice than the BRX for hunting in low light conditions.
