I have fired about 50 rounds through my Cooper in 280AI,and I finally found a load that will meet the 1/2" at 100 yards accuracy guarantee.I fired three groups this morning using the 140gr barnes TTSX ahead of 59gr of imr-4831,and the first group out of a clean barrel went into 3/4".The second group went into 1/2",and the third group into just over 3/8".All nine rounds went into 1",and if the first shot out of a clean barrel is ignored, the next 8 shots went into 3/4".My chronograph battery died just as I started shooting, but the two shots that were recorded were right around 3100fps.I am going to load some more rounds, fire a few more groups, and chronograph the loads, but I am thinking that my load development is complete.

 69 grains of IMR 4831? Wow, the nosler book says max = 60. I figured I could go a couple grains more but 9 is quite a bit. I may try working up to that load, slowly of course.

Thanks for posting your load data and results.:)

I know I was over on my 25/06 AI from the load data, but I don't think I was over that much? 3gr max if I remember correctly, but I was moly coating then. Interesting.

OOPS!The 69gr was a misprint.I was actually using 59gr with the 280AI.The 69gr was for a 7mmremmag load using R-22 that I was using this morning in a friends rifle.

That sounds better! Glad I didn't load a few at 69 grains!:D I've been using 60 gr, I may drop her down to 59 and try it. I've had best luck with the noslers but I like the tsx bullet, maybe it will sing with a grain less powder.

I worked up to 61gr with the 140gr accubond and the case webs started to expand slightly when fired. At 60gr,there is no significant case web expansion. At 59gr with the 140grTTSX there is no significant case web expansion. The accuracy at 59gr looks so promising, that I won't likely bother to try 60gr.
As a side note,an old lot # of IMR 4831 was significantly slower than the lot# that I just started on.The velocity increased by over 100fps when I started the new lot#,and is pretty much in line with the data on the Nosler site. All of the results mentioned in this thread were obtained with the new lot# of powder.

I have 3 coopers right now and 1 that is on order.:D All 3 that I currently have will do under .25" at 100 yards for 3 shots but they are all varmint calibers as well. If your looking for an accurate rifle there's no need to look farther than a cooper!

Woa! I only got 2 Coopers and I thought I was over indulging :D Guess I've got some catching up to do.:dancingbanana:

I chronographed the 140gr TTSX load this morning at 3070fps.The temperature was about 15 degrees C.I wasn't shooting as good this morning, but all nine shots went into 1-1/8",which is good enough for a hunting load.It does seem that very first TTSX group out of a clean barrel is slightly larger than the following groups, but all are good enough for a hunting rifle.

Are most people finding that the cooper rifles shoot very well,in their calibers from 25/06 up to 338/06?sometimes hard to justify over $2000 on a rifle but if they are shooting 1/2" groups that makes it alittle easier

They seem to shoot well in a calibers. We got a 338/06 Exc in stock(actually, still here but just spoken for) that I'm not sure how one .338 bullet made it through the hole, let alone three. :)

The bad thing about the 1/2" accuracy guarantee,is that some people will expect every shooter to be able to shoot 1/2" groups with any load. Some loads simply won't produce 1/2" groups, and some shooters can't shoot 1/2" groups with any gun/load combination. My own rifle has only accomplished 1/2" or better groups with one load, but all loads that I have tried would do better than 1".

The really bad thing is that I want more Coopers and less remmy's!
