Snipe are excellent to eat I fry the breast meat in butter with onions and mushrooms. Very good. Never tried a coot.

I would shoot more, but I can never catch the little beggars flying! They just swim past, or run along the water.

A buddy from the U.S was here hunting last year. We are scouting and he comments about the thousands of coots on the sloughs we are seeing. He says I have never seen one fly? Do they walk to migrate? It was all I could do to keep a straight face and tell him yes and what a sight it is when they are gathered by the tens of thousands moving across the prairies the way the Buffalo used to. That you can see the dust cloud for miles and the Trans Canada Hwy gets shut down sometimes for hours as they cross it headed south into the Dakotas.
