CORE 15-U.S. made AR's

I had a chance to play with some a couple days ago at the shop. They're really nice. The really base model one's foregrip and pistol grip were a little loose, but the quad rail version was nice and solid. Lots of Magpul stuff attached.

7075 is more prone to corrosion than 6061 but it is a tad stronger....

We brought in some of the Core 15 rifles and we were very impressed with the fit and finish. The rifles are built extremely well and so far have performed like champs.

The cost of the 7075 billet prior to forging is not "a lot" more expensive than a 6061 billet when compared to the overall cost of the rifle. Might add $20-30 to the total cost.

Ok, I just checked, and in production quantities from the mill (enough to do a run of 100 units) the cost difference per rifle would work out to about $12. Less for higher product runs.

EDIT: It turns out that if you shop around you can actually get the raw 7075 forgings, upper and lower together, for $12 total! The forge mills aparently have enough volume to get it this cheap.

By comparisson, the machine time to make, say, a billet AR, is much higher than $12.

The Core15 is likely a very nice us-made AR, but it's not accurate to say they are more expensive ot produce than machined AR's of other alloy.

this is not intended as a comment to say one is better than the other or vice versa, but the statements in earlier posts on 7075 forged lowers costing more is incorrect.

Alright so call me ignorant, stupid uninformed or whatever, why do the piston driven models all have gas blocks up front and the direct impingement models all have the ugly (IMO) front sight post??

Can the front sight posts be removed or do they serve some function other than simply being a sight?? if removed will the barrel be scuffed underneath?

I ask because the NEA's are direct impingement and have a gas block as well. I thought the gas block was specific to piston systems.

Id seriously consider a D.I tac model so long as that damn post can come off and a front troy or magpul can be thrown on the rail instead.

Why would a gas block be specific to DI models.. How do you expect the gas to be diverted and force the piston back?

The most recent shipment has just been approved and will be shipping on Wednesday or Thursday of next week. A boat load of D.I. models will be on this order and we'll take the pre-order off the website as they will be available for immediate shipping by mid January.

PM if you have any questions...

Gary

Wanstalls can you hit me back with a response on this one plz? My experience with AR's goes as far a CGN and shooting a rinco aka not much!!

Thanks for your time and bringing over what seems to be an excellent product I will be considering for my next purchase!

You can add a railed gas block, as opposed to the front A post. I believe they are press fit, and pinned, but am still new to AR's to know for sure. As far as I know, you can even special order a DI gun with the front pic rail block if you so desired. I'd plan on just swapping it out. I don't think it'd be that terribly complicated and you don't have to special order. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. That's just the impression that I got from their website.

Glad to hear that!
