Princess Auto walnut. About $30 now for 50 pounds. It is very fine and does not block the flash holes.


I use it to clean brass and to remove case lube. Brass looks good with no additives. I toss it every 10th time.

TSC stores also has walnut, $20 for 50lbs when on sale, I put a capfull of Franklin's brass polish in with each batch of cases.

I tried my coal TSC. Nothing on the floor and the clerk I spoke to didn't think they carried it.

This is the same method I use. Make sure the bounce sheet is a used one.

A little NuFinish car polish(not wax), blended in the media before adding brass(15 min.), and a used Bounce sheet cut into strips to cut down on the dust.

I went to walnut 'cause corn cob wound up sticking in the flash hole and bending/breaking de-capping pins. Don't have that problem with walnut shells. Plain they will clean the cases, a touch of Brasso or any metal polishing compound makes 'em pretty if that is your thing, and I second the used Bounce sheet for dust control.

I ended up picking up a "lifetime supply" of walnut from Princess for $30/50#. All my bass is clean at the moment, so it may be a while before I can try it out.

just a word of advise on the Princess walnut bags, you may want to have a few large plastic containers on hand (cat litter cans work excellent) when you open the bag. Once the bag is opened the paper sides tear very easily and spillage is a distinct possibility. The other thing is that "as bought " the walnut is very dusty so when I transferred from bag to plastic container I did it outside with a bit of wind blowing to "winnow out the dust" before using it in the cleaner...only takes a few minutes but very worth while.

I bought a 50lb bag of crushed walnut at TSC Stores last year in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario. They had it also in the Guelph Ontario store as well.
Use bounce sheets in it though, it's dusty.
As far as corn cob, try the larger pet shops as it is sold as animal bedding. Agriculture shops like Co-Op may have it too.

I have a few 5 gallon pails I was going to store it in. Good advice about the winnowing. Thanks

The only corn cob I could find at the local pet shops was too coarse for case polishing. Probably about 3/16 or even 1/4"
