Corrosive

...? Brass is a non-ferrous metal, so it depends on what you mean by 'corrosion'. Brass will tarnish/oxidize, but it won't rust like a ferrous metal. It is because of this fact that brass has been historically (to some extent still) used on salt water ships' fasteners/furniture.
You'll also notice powder flasks can be brass, there are really two reasons for this 1) corrosion resistant. 2) won't produce a spark if struck against something hard. [b:]
 
Is black powder just as corrosive on brass barrels as carbon steel?

It is damaging to brass, if left uncleaned. If you leave brass cartridge untouched after shooting blackpowder in them, they turn green from the fouling. I am not sure if they would pit as deeply and quickly as iron, but they would corrode
