For those of us in an urban environment, traditional gun cases can attract too much unwanted attention, either from our anti- neighbours, nosy landlords, or an unknown criminal element.

For this reason a non-descript case is ideal for us to carry our firearms when traveling to the range or hunting.

I have used several different means when traveling with pistols or short barreled rifles or shotguns, but a non-restricted .308 or 6.5 is a little more challenging with an upper receiver and 20+" barrel. Are there any commercial options that have worked for you when transporting your rifle?

A buddy of mine that lives in Toronto he has a Remington 783 he puts it in a sling bag, got stopped once by the OPP explain what was going on he got a warning because he didn't have a tag lol

I've heard anecdote of a person being charged with concealment in BC for using a guitar case. It could be false, or maybe it was true and he beat the case in court. Anyone able to confirm?

When my wife bought her first shotgun on boxing day, we wrapped the box in wrapping paper before taking it out of the car.

not sure if it wasn't BC but there's quite a few in the states where they had AR-15s in a tactical case made to look like a violin or a guitar case so those are highly regulated now, and checked, but I do like the idea of a guitar case,

I doubt anybody has ever been charged for using a guitar case gun case.

One guy (poorly) wrapped a loaded 22lr rifle in his jacket, got on public transport and made jokes about going on a killing spree and he got charged.

If I lived in the city I would use a standard hard shell rifle case (pelican or other) and just cover it with music stickers. Slap a few Fender or Gibson stickers on there and you are good. High end guitar cases meant for travel are virtually identical to rifle cases. You might get approached by the occasional guitar player wanting to chat about gear but musicians are easy to ignore. My efforts were ignored for literally decades.

I have converted a soft guitar case ( Gig Bag / 42" ) for my Modern Sporter and Tavors....
I also have a SKB hard guitar case for my Coach gun...

My neighbors must think I play in a band.

At least with your Stag/BCL, you can split the upper and lower and use a more compact case. Really something 20' long could work for you, tennis racket bag, big gym bag, small guitar case.

It's considered a concealed weapon in Canada if you intentionally disguise the gun case to look like you aren't carrying a gun.

Using a guitar shaped case, or putting music oriented stickers on it can bring charges.
This was brought up with the case of the guy, and the blanket.

It was confirmed that his intention was to transport the rifle wrapped in a blanket so he wouldn't disturb other transit riders. He didn't have a case, and didn't want to carry it openly.

This was viewed as intent to conceal. It certainly didn't help he left one in the chamber, but because he intended to disguise it, he set a precedent. Do a search, there are a few threads on this debated to exhaustion.

I was more looking for suggestions along these lines ...

20" you mean?

And you still have to add the length of the upper receiver and any muzzle device making it more like 30" or so needed.

Is it really?

Buddy you mentioned had the gun loaded or had a loaded mag inserted and was making killing jokes not to mention it was poorly covered.

A broken down, unloaded gun that is LOCKED and the case it locked...should cover you butt, going above the requirements never hurts to help an uneducated cop "get it". You are not hiding a loaded gun in your pants...you'd have to unlock the case, unlock the guns lock, assemble it, load it...not exactly a quick process.

Even if it is not a "normal" gun case...which many are made to be a normal looking rectangular, heavily padded bag.
