20" you mean?
And you still have to add the length of the upper receiver and any muzzle device making it more like 30" or so needed.
You can buy lots of different cases, and do what you want with them.
What I'm telling you is, if your intent is to make it look like you are carrying something other than a gun inside, you could be charged with concealed weapon. There is precedence, and you can look it up if you don't believe me.
With how retarded most of our gun laws are, you should take my word for it.
Pretty sure anything can be used as a case, pending it is marked as containing a firearm. So a tag, sticker, or sharpie. I'm Anglo, but I write firearm in French, small print in an obscure area on a bag or case that is not obviously a gun case to be in compliance. You never know about the over zealous officers who may raise a stink otherwise.

By that logic anything that doesn't say in giant letters "GUN CASE" on the outside or similar would be illegal.
Even a normal rectangular pelican case could be "concealing a firearm".
I'm going to put this one under, myths of the internet.
It's all about intent as far as I'm aware. If you tell the officer that you intended to conceal the firearm (for example, so as to not cause undue public concern) then that is where the problem lies, not so much with the case. It is pretty impossible to conceal a firearm in what is overtly a gun case, but if the case is not specifically made for firearms (e.g. guitar case, camera cases, etc.), then the whole idea of attempting to conceal it comes into play. That is why others have recommended labelling said case. Hard for someone to argue for concealment when the contents are clearly displayed on the container.
Wow.
How do people lack any logic and common sense.
If you put your lunch in your gym bag is it still a gym bag?
Your intent is to transport a firearm.... that's it.
Call it a low profile gun case.
Anyone that wants to test the legality of carrying your rifle in a guitar case should do this:
- Make sure the firearm has a live round in the chamber
- Make sure the guitar case is in a state of disrepair and maybe flops open randomly, so the firearm is partially exposed
- Get on public transport and act suspicious
- When asked what your purpose for bringing a firearm onto the transport is, say "I plan on going on a shooting spree"
- When police arrive and ask you why your firearm is in the case, tell them that you wanted to conceal it
BONUS STEP:If you are lucky enough to go through all these steps and end up in front of a judge, make sure you tell the judge that your intention was to conceal the firearm from others.
If you follow these steps you will have an opportunity to discuss with a judge why your firearm is in a guitar case. Omit these steps and
you will just be some guy with a guitar case walking through your apartment to your car.
