Coyote Cull Controversy - Your Take?

Maybe coyote hunters are causing the over-population problem. More pups are being born because hunting them requires the animals to breed more to sustain their population at a level nature would support.

It is counter-intuitive, but the studies do show a population increase as a result of a cull. I contend that a moratorium on coyote hunting would result in a population decrease.

Similar phenomena occur in nature, like why is the human birth rate in the 3rd world way higher than in North America, where the resources exist to support more people?

You can't outsmart mother nature, Mr. Dinosaur.

Like Raised said, go ahead and kill'em for enjoyment, but don't pretend you are going to control the population.

Coyote can breed in larger numbers because there is food available and less competition.
Humans breed in the 3rd world when they shouldn't because they're stupid, raped, no birth control available and it feels good.
Totally different sides of the coin.

Wolves, bears, ect keep coyote populations down. So do hunters. They may come back next year with more pups per litter, but that only matters if no one is around to hunt them.

an interesting story published in todays Ottawa Sun
www.ottawasun.com/farmers
I think the problem around Russell is what the farmers
are complaining about is, that its just inside the Ottawa boundry,
so no hunting allowed.
I say have a caliber restriction and go for it.
Incidently, outside of Ottawa Carleton,
you can use your old Enfield or Garand to
thump the crap out of the Coyotes if you want.
Russell is a rural area anyways.

I don't believe you will ever eradicate the coyote,if you shoot 40, 8 females will replace them in the following year.

I beleive that hunting them keeps them on the edge and perhaps you kill the older bolder ones before they can teach there next generation how good dog tastes.

When there is a bounty on them every nut is out trying to make a buck, trespassing and doing stupid #### that gives hunters a bad rep leaving land owners upset.(mini 14 hanging out the window of a jeep 50 mile an hour unloading the banana clip at the coyote, rolling the jeep in the ditch (that kind of stupid))

When there is a bounty everyone from outside the area brings there coyotes in to the check station to get there bounty.
Coyotes are the best renewable resource in the wild and wiping them out is not possible.

MY 3 cents

But all this stuff about humans needing to "regulate" the coyote population doesn't seem very logical. Nature doesn't need us to regulate itself. If there are too many coyotes around at some point they run out of preys, go hungry and their numbers go down. Sure that means lean years for hunters as well, but the "system" works out imbalances in the end...

If there are too many hunters around at some point, they run out of coyotes, get bored and go home. Sure, that means good years for the coyote's prey, but the "system" works out imbalances in the end...

Just another type of "regulation" by nature......;)

The other side of the story was some lady from a wildlife protection group, saying she doesn't want to see any coyotes being shot at all... Her exact quote after was, "instead, we should learn to coexist with them.".

Did anyone get her name? We could send her to negotiate with them. Or we could just shoot them.
