Coyote Drives

I have no problems with drives. Its the idiots that openly blast across fields with no care where there bullets end up. I've had 3 times where bullets where coming thru the trees around me. I managed to catch up to one group. It didn't end well. Get permission and circle the block to look for signs of other hunters first

Drives work, with or without Dogs. But so does sitting, depends on how busy the woods are around you. And how thick the deer and coyote population is We will sit opening day and let the other hunters stir up the deer for us. We like choke points like damns, steep ridges to funnell the deer. And other days we do are own drives, just depends what's happening around us.
We maintain boundaries with all camps that we come in contact with and we all stick to it. Unless of course a tresspasser comes along and $##T's on your plan.

I've participated on drives as well. But only on property we had permission on, and never with the vehicles parked along the ditches. Thats what threw me off.

Drives are stupid and dangerous. You have a bunch of idiots walking through the bush towards more idiots. Then when they see a deer/dog/whatever, they all start shooting toward each other. This is not hunting, this is no different than cavemen driving buffalo over cliffs.

LMAO, best not to hunt with idiots then..

Drives. Nobody should confuse drives with hunting - they're two completely different things. Hunting is hunting, drives are eradication. Personally, I don't see any sport in drives or using dogs.

One of the most exciting, challenging, and ways to hunt there is...Much more so than sitting in a stand waiting for a victim..

This problem happened to me during deer rifle season Nov-2012. Two truck loads of men crossed my land, (without permission) to gain access to crown land behind my property. There is an access trail through my land to get to the crown. I did post it all summer and fall that the road would be closed for deer season. I did allow access to the crown land prior to this incident during the non hunting season. To make a long story short, I confronted the men on their way out on my property. There was a lot of discussion. Point blank I told them if you come back your tresspassing. They basically told me they thought the trail was a road allowance and would cross may land when they want.

I had no choice but to call the MNR. And in return the MNR talked to the hunters. The MNR at thier liberty could of given each hunter a min of $150.00 fine for tresspassing for the purpose of hunting. And as well taken thier game. Heavier and more damaging charges could of a also be laid but this was bare minumum .
Anyway they got a warning because the trail was not clearly marked the rain had damaged the signs. So it is clearly posted now, and next time there will be more than just a warning.
So the moral of the story is if you don't want people shooting up your land and tresspassing, POST POST POST IT ! ! !, I can't make myself any clearer

Yes, and anyone else thinking about taking this lightly, the CFO can become involved because hunters are in possession of firearms. They have the option of revoking licences for those found trespassing while in possession of a firearm. Who in thier right mind wants someone such as Chris Wyatt hanging over your shoulder in this manner with his love of giving us greif??

Hunting with dogs is the ultimate, I can not believe someone would post that they are not in favour of hunting with dogs.

The folks who badmouth hunting with dogs are very much like the people who don't care about ATT's because they don't have restricteds and don't necessarily think anyone else should either....

One of their arguments is that using hounds isn't sporting??... But they have no issue with baiting, using camo and/or blinds and/or treestands, in order to give themselves an advantage. Or they are fine with using 30 cal magnums with high power scopes to hammer an oblivious whitetail at 500 yards. As far as I'm concerned, if they aren't crawling up on their prey with nothing more than a sharp stick for a weapon, then they are likely using some sort of assistance to improve their odds of harvesting an animal.

Another thing that always confounds me when it comes to hunters who are against hunting with dogs, is their complete lack of appreciation for the tradition of hunting with dogs. We have been using dogs to hunt for far longer than we've had firearms. It is as natural an activity, and relationship, as we have. A time honoured tradition that far too many "hunters" look down their noses at imo.

I hunt coyotes with two methods calling and with hounds.I love both methods but honestly enjoy calling over running hounds.
Our coyote drives with hounds involve surrounding a block and releasing the hounds unless we have fresh snow and tracks then we dump dogs on tracks.
Our gang wear blaze orange hats and coats and safety is our number one priority. With both a mix of shotgun and rifles hunters.
We have had permission on the lands we hunt for 20+ years so if a coyote gets out of block no big deal as there always more coyotes.
We have a success rate of 50 to 60 % on our chases and I might add a coyote running at 35kph isn't an easy target.
Please don't knock hound hunters until you have tried it,,,nothing beats an excited hound.

The rules say if they shoot an animal or a bird and it runs into your property, they have the right of servitude to access your property to harvest the game that they shot outside of your property but that ended up on your field.

More BS. You are on a roll.

We push yotes by foot all winter long when we have snow, we have over 150 farms and written permission to hunt on these farms as required by the township bylaw. We have never shot anyone and your chances of getting shot are far greater in a shopping mall than a hunters drive. We are quite successful in killing yotes every winter killing as many as when we used dogs. We at one time hunted with dogs but our pushers are better than dogs because they can read signs and they know when to come home and where they can not go. The only time we get the police involed is when some uninformed city slicker or anti hunter or the hunter that thinks he has exclusive permission everywhere complains or sees a gun. Plus we get calls from the farmers to come and kill the yotes and some would also like all the turkey, deer and geese killed if it were legal.
Enjoy the hunt which ever way you do it.
