Coyote rig

.223 all the way...easy on powder and barrels. Not too loud and plenty of bullets brass/ available. Went through the 22-250/220 Swift phase in my teens and 20's. These days I shoot 95 percent of my varmints with a 222 Rem custom barreled Sako varmint. Drop a match bullet into the boiler room of a coyote with this rig and a yote won't go far!

.223 Rem or 204 Ruger.

Sorry, schitty pic.

in my 22-250 . i use the sierra 40 grainers. ive shot coyotes with these bullets and have not had any pelt damage .small entry. no exit .im amazed with this bullet.

Where you hit the coyote/fox has a lot to do with pelt damage, plop one in the middle and your good to go, add some bone into the equation and get out the needle and thread. I have both a 223 and 22 250 and have had no pelt damage with both and gapping holes with both as well. Have fun choosing you new caliber/gun!!!

What 40grn's do u use? I use 40's in my 22-250 for coyote as well. Nosler 40gn spitzer's. http://www.nosler.com/ballistictipvarmint.htm

The gun in my hand here is a stevens 200 in 22-250 but its not what i use anymore. the gun now is a savage 12fv in 22-250 for coyote.
Shot about 15 coyotes last year all clean kills with no big explosion exit holes.

As well regardless of your cal and rifle I think the most important thing is trigger time and knowing your bullet drop at what distance.

Compared to .243, .22-250 makes a much smaller hole in your tractor.

:)

The family and I just left the island this morning after a nice vacation; the best we were able to do was to take out a red fox three nights ago driving home from a clam feed. I wish I had the same success with a rifle and electronic caller when I am actually hunting them. :(

It is hard to go wrong with a .223.

Regards,

Chizzy
