Coyote

Outstanding rifle, just wondering the need for a brake on a 308.

One possible advantage is reduced muzzle rise, meaning that one may be less apt to lose sight of one's target (during recoil).

Thanks for all the comments. Ill be sure to post a range report when she gets up and running.

the break came with the rifle. thats why i have it. and yes its .308

you were 'wondering why a brake on a .308', if you knew then why bother asking such a stupid question?. It's pretty simple to see he spent a some good money on this nice setup so he got whatever he wanted. Brake or no brake, he got it for whatever reason he wanted it and it really doesn't matter.

And muzzle brakes aren't 'popular' but go on snipershide/snipercentral and look around this forum and you'll see a bunch using them on .308's and up.

No need to throw a child's fit just because you asked a stupid question that basically has a 'common sense' response and don't like the reply to it. :jerkit:

u mad?

Awesome rig.

I have the same stock/color combo coming for my project / same bottom metal and I'm coating metal parts with similar color.

I just got NF NXS 5.5-22X50 MLR W/ Mil Rad 0-Stop Turrets and its an amazing scope.

I know PGW makes a nice rig for sure. A person on a budget could build a near identical rig with top match grade components (less helical fluting) for about $1500 less if you were so inclined...

(Surgeon repeater, Vbull metal, Krieger barrel, Jewell Trigger McMillan A5, SSG Vaporizer brake and all the smithing)

Still need to loosen the shorts a bit more.

jesus, beautiful gun my friend, I however, could never justify spending that much.

Looking forward to the range report though:cool:

The key phrase here is "near identical" Anyways, why do these threads always end up with someone telling someone else how much they could have saved by doing this or doing that? Over the last 2 months I've gotten several quotes on a build similar to this from several reputable rifle builders in this country and none of them were $1500 less. Is there something I'm missing here?

Well, do the math:

The closest action I can come up with is a Surgeon... $1250 US (read the recent thread about importing from Brownells) A stiller would be cheaper (and similar).
Krieger Barrel....$400 US
Jewell Trigger...$200 US
McMillan A5... $498 US
SSG Vaprorizer Brake ...$100
V-Bull Bottom Metal ?

= 2448 US or $3048 CDN in todays exchange Add a V-Bull mag system and the gunsmithing and you are at $4000 CDN. I can give you the names of several gunsmiths that will chamber, crown, thread and mount your barrel, and install the brake and they won't charge you 2 grand for doing so..

I'm not saying your choice is rifles is bad, far from it. I'm just saying that the complete package is greater than the sum of all its parts. There is certainly the convenience of buying the unit as a complete package and it is quality stuff, but my point is that one does not have to spend $5500 to get a rifle that will be its equal in performance, construction, appearance and quality IF you are willing to do the leg-work.

In the "group buy" being offered by PGW (I don't know if it is still on, but I think it is) you can get a Coyote in the same colour as shown here for $4700.

Sweet rifle by the way.
