CQBR / Mk18 Mod1 Clone thread - Show us your clones!

Nice Kit Xero! Damn that is sweet!
Thanks!

WOW. That may change my plans a bit. I didn't realize they were THAT expensive.

By dual IR you mean the IR laser and the IR light in one unit?
Yeah IR lasers are expensive in Canada because 90% of them are made in the USA. Which means dealing with ITAR. And IR lasers fall into a category of items that are typically only reserved for LE/Mil usage, so the paperwork to get them up here legally is extensive...

And yes, the DBAL-I2 9007 unit has an IR laser and IR light/illuminator in one unit. Most of the DBAL-I2 units are a visible laser combined with an IR laser, with no IR illuminator.

I don't speak from assumption. If you have a regular mount and the INVG side by side, take a ruler out and you can tell the difference. Headship has nothing to do with it, unless eyeballs can pop out by an inch.

Anyways, anyone who wants to copy this setup should do a bit of google search. This issue had been talked about somewhere else, such as AR15.com It had been wondered by other people why the NOD is so far out there when they put a wilcox J-arm on an INVG.
Measure all you want, in real life the "issue" isn't nearly as extreme as you make it out to be.

With the INVG retracted all the way as it is in the photo I showed, it's comparable to all other J-Arm solutions I've used in the past. The DDA is definitely better since it was DESIGNED to work with the INVG, but that doesn't make the J-Arm / INVG combination useless by any means.

A good place to start:

In Canada there are not really any good sources for reasonably priced NODs. You're pretty much limited to Scout Base Camp as far as I can tell, unless someone knows some other sources.

Extremely pricey. If you're looking for entry level stuff, SOME of the gen2 stuff is decent. I don't know enough about all the different specs for gen2 to really ID what's good and what isn't though:

whats the word on GSCI? are they a reliable brand? all the NV info i read always talks about american companies like armasight. theres not alot out there about GSCI.

How is the blockII coming Donut?

Lol, it's on pause.....I started eyeballing Mk12 builds a few weeks ago, even sold some stuff to start paying for parts, but realized what a colossal pain in the buttocks it would be to source parts. I think I might take a break from clone building for a while, it was pretty frustrating trying to find the last few bits, haha!

I went the "easy" way and decided to just build a second upper for my clone "kit". M4a1 14.5 block 2, just received my barrel and my m4a1 fsp RAS II has been siting in a drawer for a while now. Nice thing about the rail is that the manufacture date is the same day i was born hehe.

Oh yeah, if I go Block 2, it will definitely be just an upper build, haha! In fact, I was thinking the same for the Mk12 build as well, though I haven't done enough research about the Mk12 and I'm not sure how accurate a build it would be using the lower from my Mk18 build.

A mk12 definitely needs an A1 profile lower, as a mk18 mod 0 does. You would also need a fixed stock for the mk12 mod 0/1 but with the holland build you would have more leeway.

Still kicking myself for not buying the ace socom gen 1 stock in the ee a few months ago

Many Mk12 Mod 1 have used SOPMOD / or other carbine stocks. (In the wild)

Absolutely true for the mk12 mod 0/1 with non fixed stock however i based my assumptions on how donut went full on as-issued on his mk18 mod 0 and i guessed he would go as-issued for the mk12 as well.

Thruth is i want people to build mod-h's rifle because i prefer them over the others and want to torture myself looking at peoples clone. Kinda the same thing as looking at your clones hilo lol

:)
The Mod H is very cool, as it was issued a Noveske stainless 16 inch Middy barrel. Would be a nice light set up.
I have used my Mod 1 with a fixed stock and the sopmod. I actually prefer the A2 fixed stock as it works with the eye relief pretty well. The Mod 1 is more limited on the scope mounts location..

Lol, to tell you guys the truth, I don't even want to start a Mk12 clone build after the hell I went through with the Mk18, but I feel compelled to have one in my collection, so it's just a matter of time before I cave :)

So this is happening...

I had to censor the non clone worthy upper, i didnt wnat to offed the clone-gods, hopefully itll be replaced soon by a normal milspec forged upper. Now i need to decide on an optic... my heart tells me elcan but my wallet disagrees, i'd go acog with red dot on top but if i go this way it has to be ta01nsn or i won't be satisfied.maybe another eotech, i really like them.

Decisions, decisions.

I did go with a gov profile barrel so it wont be as issued but someone who used to be an sof armorer over at arfcom said they are frequently rebarreled to gov profile overseas so there is my justification :D also i wanted to same some weight.

On another note, the m4a1 rail is a bit older than the short one and was made at the savannah plant before they moved production to black creek. Notice the lighter, more flat anodizing of the older rail and also the holes on the bottom handguard, they go all the way up to the muzzle end wich indicates it is an earlier version of the rail. No bipod will go on this baby, i don't want to bend it wich was the issue originally.
Production date on the rail is march 11th of '08, mk18 rail was made in '13

When weather gets a bit warmer i will spray paint them all, can't wait!

Also yes i do wear tactical black crocs with white socks.
