CQBR / Mk18 Mod1 Clone thread - Show us your clones!

Donut, you should mount the 4p with the silver shims instead of a crush washer, for clone correctness.

How is the weight on the fake sf can? I think it is supposed to be the same as the real deal, wich would expleain the thick walls.

Lol, I have shims, but they're from my KAC M4QD and they wouldn't be pure....will have to source the correct shims from Surefire........kidding :)

I haven't weighed the fake can, but it's pretty heavy.

Also, just found these on the PRI website. I know the 80% lower thing is kind of buggered right now, but maybe they'll start producing finished ones.

MisterD,
I just shoot ARs and not too familiar about clones and stuff. Three questions..
1. What does your Mk.18 weigh fully kitted up unloaded?
2. Do you have NVG also?
3. What is the purpose of the glow stick rubber banded to the stock?

And I really love the look of your (and White Knight’s) rifles. Your dedication is bordering on OCD!!

Lol, I don't shoot the rifle with all of that crap on it, just throw it on for photos.

1. I'm not sure what it weighs, but it's a heavy bastard without ammo. I'll weigh the Block II clone tonight.
2. No NVG, fake PEQ for photos only. White Knight's is real. There aren't many night events where I am so I can't justify $2k for the real deal. Not to mention my wife would have my balls if I shelled out another $5-20k for the eye wear.
3. Lol, the tactical elastic. I actually use an elastic with my C7 to tuck the sling into when not in use, but the elastic and glow stick in these photos it's only there for the the photo shoot.

When I actually take this rifle to the range, it doesn't have any of that stuff on there, not even the light, but I do want to try out the fake can though. Since I first saw the Warden and the Noveske Flaming Pig, I've always been curious to see what the effect of using one is like.

The four prong is amazing on it's own, in a dimly lit indoor range, there is barely any flash signature, just a tiny dot of flame. I'll have to see if I can capture that on film.

As to the OCD, I think I admitted to maybe having a slight problem very early on in this thread, hahahahahaha!

Do you know Waynetheman? He has a Flaming Pig on his Noveske. PM him for details.

Ok, I get it now. That PEQ had me confused a bit. I was wondering if your wife is a saint if you’re spending all that coin on kitting up clone rifles for photo shoots! LOL!!

I was wondering about the “Tactical elastic” as White Knight’s pic showed the same thing. Is this a SOP thing with Mk.18s?

White Knight's and onetwentyish are the true heroes of this thread because they both coughed up for real ATPIALs. For me, the OCD hasn't sunk in quite deep enough to buy a real one (but I'm sure I'm not that far off and will eventually succumb). I think those guys have the NODS and do shoot the night events though.

If I recall correctly, another reason you'll see the elastic on some of the MK18s is because the lock up on some of the early ones were a bit sketchy and the guys would throw an elastic on there to firm up the locking mechanism?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. For my Mk18 photos, it's only on there for the photo shoot as the B5 stock and all the LMTs I've had work great and positively lock in place.

Thanks for the reply. I can’t justify spending $$$ for NV and PEQs and helmets so I can shoot one match a year.
Can’t hunt with an AR and can’t hunt at night. If I was a Yank in Texas! Different story!

Props to the boys who can!

I heard Wanstalls hosted a night event at TMSA recently, not sure if that's the once a year event you're talking about. It looks fun and I'd want to try it sometime, but will probably have to participate with the MX3 only.

My Peq was bought on a whim a little while ago when one became available on the ee. I wanted it for my ACR for when I did get into NVG, but that day has not came yet as I cant seem to stop buying rifles long enough to buy nods. Lol

And now I seem to have contracted SMG fever and want another Kriss, MPX and Evo, so I must make some stuff disappear! Im not totally droping the NVG idea though as I still have my IR/Vis Mepro Mor on the x95. Lol

Yup, the DSS night match. Once a year only. It isn’t open to everyone. Only to members of DSS who have passed their CASE and have volunteered multiple times with set up and RO duties during the regular season. PM me if you want details.

I’m sort of in a similar situation. The Elcan was a hard pill for me to swallow in the name of clone building because I do most of my shooting on crown land and having $2,500 tied up in an optic on a rifle I seldom shoot, and seldom shoot beyond 10m is killing me, lol!

To get a real ATPIAL, though I really want one, is not very realistic. I’m really into my bolt guns and the long range and precision thing right now, which requires some half decent glass. Decent glass starts at $2,000 - $3,000 and can run up to $7,000 if I want to get into a TT. That’s sort of why I’ve been hesitant on getting a real PEQ. I also try not to think about how much money I’ve already sunk into my Mk18s, hahal!

I will have to look into this, but it seems like a lot of steps to get to it? I’ve one and a half jobs and a screaming kid at home, so I don’t have a lot of time to spare.

I did enjoy the Redneck Three Gun matches the last two times I attended, but basically any free weekend I have is spent with family, my other job, or maybe if I’m lucky, once a month drive out to Squampton or Merritt to hammer the steel.

Will have to look into that DSS night match a bit more though. I have a buddy that invited me a few years ago, but I didn’t take him up on it, but probably should have.

Mister D has already answered the question but I may as well chime in too. My rifle I shoot in the configuration you see in the pictures, all the weight included. It does weigh substantially more with all the crap on. Coupled with the warden it changes the dynamic of how it handles, and the trainer even more so. I can see why this trainer exists because the front end weight distribution changes how easily you transition targets. Everything on my rifle is real or the closest civilian legal alternative. Some could argue that the non pvs/su-... NSN marked parts are not “clone correct” but that is just unrealistic here in Canada on the other side of the ITAR wall. It didn’t feel right to try so hard to get legit parts only to skip the real expensive ones so I waited and kept looking until I would inevitably give in for the sake of completeness. It’s a psychological thing after the first big piece, “I’m already in too deep X$, just that last piece would make it complete” cut to now and I almost have the full damn deployment kit.

I don’t have nvgs... yet. Another domino yet to fall for the sake of completeness.

The elastic thing is the same as mister D. But I put elastisized keepers on my sling that I can double the sling back on itself for stowage.

Maybe us bc clone guys should have a little clone get together shoot. Check out each other’s builds in person. Get sweet action shots of our clones out of the living room.

Edit: about the warden/ trainer. I shoot with mine on quite a lot. About 80% on. I used to have a SF MB556k on and my poor range neighbors... I kept it on for them. I have since moved to the SF3P but keep it on because it makes the blast go from a sinus clearing crack to a more bassie boom.
