CQBR / Mk18 Mod1 Clone thread - Show us your clones!

So, I am one of the biggest Magpul fanboys. I love most of Magpul products, their simplistic design, their functionality and their prices. They work, and they're fairly inexpensive, what's not to like? Some people hate on Mapul because it's the fashionable thing to do, but I'm not ashamed to admit I like Magpul. But this Mk18 Mod 0 had me at a crossroads. The trigger guard that came with my lower was a Magpul unit, not the factory Colt M4 standard issue AR trigger guard.

I like the Magpul trigger guard. It's asthetically pleasing, it's larger to allow ease of use for shooting with gloves on (something I rarely do, but it's nice to have that option), and really, there was nothing wrong with it.....other than the fact that they never came on the Mk18 Mod 0s. Off it came, and I dug out a spare factory Colt unit to toss it on.

Farely simplistic install if you have the right tools. Basically all you need is a punch set and a hammer and less than ten minutes of your time. I still can't believe I swapped out such a trivial thing....I'll probably keep the Geisele trigger in there unless I end up with another AR I feel I need it in.

I've got the KAC M4QD on order through One Shot Tactical......my justification is I can't mount my fake supressor properly without it. There is nothing wrong with the Colt A2 birdcage, and I have doubts it functions any differenly than the KAC unit, but once again, none of this really makes any sense.

After the KAC M4QD arrives, all I will need is the real CQD sling plate and I should be able to put this build to rest......though I have been eyeballing Surefire M962 flashlights on eBay........IT NEVER ENDS!!!!

Not even Reliable? Been a while since I was last in there, but they used to have them.

This build has literally consumed me and just as I am coming near it's end, I started thinking about a Mk12 build, lol! I was literally planning it out as I was dozing off to bed last night.......*%$#@!

nope, checked their site nothing, last time i was in there didnt see any either. harder part is finding the FDE one. also be thankful you havent caught the Block 2 bug yet. the KAC front sight is 300$! ugh... why couldn't i have started with a sopmod M4 build.

I'm trying to resist the Block II build for now, lol! I was sort of distracted by the possibliity of a Mk12 build, but I better just steer clear of any more builds or I'll end up divorced.

I thought the CQBR (Block I/mod 0) build would be fairly inexpensive since all the rage was free float systems, but boy was I wrong. Trying to source out the nitty gritty details has been a colossal headache, lol!

Yup. It would be so much easier to use airsoft stuff, but it's just not them same. God help me if a "cheap" peq15 pops up

Yeah, I scrapped the idea of using airsoft parts when I presented my idea to the ARF crowd and got an earful.

So, hopefully a CQD sling plate pops up and that should be the end of this build.

I ordered the KAC M4QD from OSS, so that ought to be a testament to by obsession to this build. Seriously, why the hell do I need to have a KAC flash hider when the standard Colt A2 will do just fine? Because the KAC unit is ribbed and has a notch in it to lock down the suppressor I can never own, lol!

The fake corncob will be the only thing airsoft on the rifle, but only for photos.

The cheapest PEQ 15 I've seen is about $1300 on eBay.com. Then you'd have to get irunguns to see if they can bring that in for you. I don't know who has those in Canada. Someone estimated about $6000 or so all said and done for a proper Block II build? Holy crap. Cool to have, but holy crap, lol!

well after i couple hours of work if finally done. heres my MK18 poster i just put together. you guys get to see it first, here it is. the more parts i get the more ill update it, fill in that sad little shadow where the elcan will go.
