CQBR / Mk18 Mod1 Clone thread - Show us your clones!

Sweet bejesus. Every time I come to this thread I leave thinking I need something else for both my block 2's. Now who sells the Surefire Warden?

After looking through this thread again and seeing all the beautiful MK18 clones I thought I should take mine out of the dark for a bit to get three of them together.

Still a work in progress as I am going to get a correct A1 lower for the MK18 Mod0 some day, but so far they're coming along nicely.

you have a pretty sweet quite a mk18 mod 0 family ... i'm jelly

Last weekend, I gave the brake fluid bath a try and it worked for the most part. I soaked the LMT stock and the KAC rails in brake fluid, however I either didn't use enough brake fluid, or maybe the brand I tried just wasn't a very strong formula? I took a toothbrush to it and managed to get a lot of the paint off, but near the end of it, I was too lazy to get it all off, lol! I even soaked the KAC rail overnight, but the paint was pretty stubborn and in the end, the paint won.

I may try it again sometime, but it looks a lot better than it did before.

I also dug out the right rail covers. Apparently the correct ones say "Knight's Armament Vero Beach FL" but to be honest, I would never have noticed if I didn't read it somewhere on ARF, lol!

Still some residual paint, but good enough for now, haha!

Got the PRI Gasbuster charging handle on there as well now, but probably another detail I would have missed if I didn't read about it somewhere.

To be honest, I sort of like the Badger Ordinance tac latch better, but it's clone correct so it's a keeper, lol!

Not something many would notice, but the Magpul trigger guard is now gone and the original Colt unit is back in.

Now all that's missing is a real CQD rear sling plate and the KAC M4QD flash hider.

The obsession continues.

KAC M4QD love

Donut, what have you done? It looked so nice with the paint!

Just teasing, i got tired of the paint on mine too but ran out of paint stripper so the half assed removal job will stay for a while cause i am too lazy to go buy more lol.

Re. The charge handle, the standard one is also gtg if you prefer it to the PRI

Lol, I can always change my mind and krylon it again :)

I'll probably keep the PRI on there, but has anyone done the tear drop forward assist? I'm wondering if I should bother.

I've looked at hundreds of pics of the Mod 0 with the A1 lower and cant recall seeing any with the teardrop forward assist. I could see why some might have it seeing they were on A1 lowers.

A few guys have done it on ARF, but yeah, you're right, I've never actually seen any photos of a Mk18 in the wild with the teardrop FA

I find myself switching between all 3 stocks a lot, each of them as advantages and disadvantages over the others.

Car/n1 is very light, great for an aggresive shooting stance, looks the best in my opinion. Downsides are that the cheekweld is so-so and it is a bit loose compared to the others and it is not a real colt, i bought it on the ee and the seller told me it was a milspec sized armalite reproduction but i believe it is com spec as it is not flush with the end of the receiver extension. It also is OD under the paint, maybe i could rit dye it sometimes

Colt waffle is also light, great for a more relaxed stance because of the angle of the butt ,puts the rifle higher on the shoulder so it is quite comfortable, not too wobly on the extension. Downsides are the cheekweld and i think it looked better unpainted wich is an easy fix.

Now the crane stock/sopmod, it is just solid, tight on the extension awesome cheekweld, a bit longer so i can use it on the first notch out when not wearing the PC or fully collapsed with the PC on wich for some reason i consider a plus. Also the rubber butt helps to keep the rifle in place and due to the straight angle of the butt it seems to favorise an aggresive stance when shooting. Downsides are that it is much heavier than the other two and the cost is also higher but this one is already paid for so kinda moot point. I also think that the sopmod looks the "worst" of the three

The best solution is to build another two rifles using your two spare buttstocks :)
