CQBR / Mk18 Mod1 Clone thread - Show us your clones!

Always had 1/2 inch groups at 50 m with 55 gr .223 or 5.56. I would be curious to see how it groups at 100 m with 77 grain 5.56.

Haha, thanks :)

Btw, I had it at the range last night just for a function test, but it seemed to group pretty well at a short distance, pretty happy with it :)

Holy crap! Why they selling it so cheap. The last 6921 I bought was around $1800 landed in Canada with export fees, taxes and exchange rate all calculated. My 6920 lower I have in the EE, the rifle cost me $3,000 back in the early 2000's.

Yup. Times are so much better now. When I see these members wasting their money on these corner cutting ARs. I feel like screaming at the screen Nooo. Le6920 for like $1500. Why bother with anything else.

To the disdain of my wife, I got my man-barbies out and started swapping parts around :

I dunno, they look sort of weird with the Canadian lowers. Also, going way off topic, I did up my Mk12ish clone as well, and just doesn't feel right.

Some of the guys on ARF thought it would be cool if someone built a CC Mk18, so what else does one do when bored?

The surefire 4P is in current use under contract from USSOCOM and is not even produced to be sold to the US market anymore. It is my understanding that once they won the contract they stopped civilian sales and only fulfill the military contract. That is why they are so expensive right now down south because of their scarcity.
It is an ITAR restricted item just like so many other things we'd love to have and is illegal to import into Canada.
The 3P is about the closest you can get for clone correctness. That's what I've been using with the warden and hopefully soon the suppressor trainer. :)

Are there any IP issues with simply producing copies of the 4P? How much would they sell for in Canada if a supply was available? Or does it have to be the original for anybody to care? Is this a performance related thing or a 'correct' brand related thing?

Just to be precise, it is not illegal to import them into Canada it is illegal to export them from the US. Those are very different things.

The whole "clone" spec thing basically requires that the items be original for maximum internet points. A direct copy of a SureFire 4P would not be manufactured by SureFire, thus not good enough for purists.

It really depends on how "clone pure" you want to be. There's lots of MK18 inspired guns out there, and relatively few ABSOLUTE PERFECT copies, mostly due to cost and parts availability. Do you have the right barrel? The right gas block? The right charging handle, sling mount, sling, lights, lasers, tapeswitches, pistol grip and buttstock?

How right is right? If one dude in NSW is using a different buttstock, does that make it Clone Appropriate? What if a section of dudes in MARSOC are trialing a different light for their BLOCK II guns, does that make it Clone Appropriate?

I'm surprised there isn't as much of a cult following on this board for CANSOF-specific builds. I guess there just aren't that many photos of them in the wild.

At the end of the day, if you're happy with your build, that's all that's important, because there will always be SOMETHING that's off for the die-hard purists. Can't please everyone.

I built a SOPMOD BLOCK II upper with the correct parts, and paid dearly for my KAC front and rear sights to be Clone Appropriate. Ended up selling the build because there were too many parts that were next to impossible to source. Now I continue to invest in my other guns instead. :D

Don't give me ideas. I have actually been pondering doing this, but need more reference material.

You're definitely right about there not being a lot of photos out there.
